Step3 / Bio

Step3 was formed in 2011 when the members met at an open stage jam session in Deerwood Maryland. All three members are versatile musicians with years of experience in multiple genres.


Bob Black-Bass
Bob has been involved with music since an early age, starting with violin at age 9, the trombone in high school, and finally the electric bass. He has played in the D.C. area for more than 45 years in the jazz, rock, and blues genre with such groups as; The Blackburn Group, Swing Thing, The James Erwin Quartet, Moving Targets, Juggernaut, Versus, and Whatever. Bob was also a member of the Encore Singers, where he sang bass.

Bob has written many bass-oriented instrumental pieces that have been performed by a number of bands. Bob also enjoys playing Bach Cello pieces on the bass.

A collection of his originals can be heard on his Robert Black Compilation CD (see songs, below).

His influences include Stanley Clark, Jaco Pastorius, Jim Fielder, Ray Brown, JS Bach, Igor Stravinski, and Gustav Mahler.

Dave Bergman-Guitar
While growing up in Chicago Dave was involved in regular performance in large bands and small groups, Rock, Blues and Jazz including musicals and studio work. Dave studied guitar under Gary Blum and George Allen and Bass under Richard Armandi (all in Chicago).

Dave has given lessons since high school and has had students in Chicago, Detroit, and New Jersey.

His favorite guitarists continue to be major influences; Jeff Beck, Frank Zappa, Steve Vai, Pat Matino, Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen, Kenney Burrell, Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, Pepe Romero, Christopher Parkening

Other musical influences are; Itzak Perlman, Oscar Peterson, Charlie Parker, Charles Mingus, Theoneous Monk, Frank Zappa

Dave's favorite composers are; Charles Mingus, Gustav Mahler, Frank Zappa, Heinrik Wieniawski

Tim Brady-Drums/Vocals
Tim has been playing drums since grammar school, served four years in the US Navy, and then went to college. He dropped out and went on and off the road for many years with many bands. Some of them were Ovas, Almost Home, Flying Blind, and Blue Dog.

Some of Tim's musical influences are; Gene Krupa, Billy Holiday, Hank Williams, Billy Joe Shaver, Link Ray, Tito Puente, Guy Clark…on and on and on.

He likes Gretsch drums, DW hardware, Zildjan cymbals good BBQ, cold beer, Goslings rum, a horse with a kind eye, Ericson sailboats, and Harley Davidson motorcycles.
