On Friday April 3rd 1987 at 8:15 a.m., Newark, New Jersey, inside the Clara Mass Hospital, Sonia Iglesias Delivered Yosmany Rodriguez Into this world. Two years later, his father Lazaro Rodriguez gave him the nickname Truki due to his mischievous-ways, pranks, and conniving attitude. Truki was a very good honors student until 3rd grade when he started acting like the class clown. Truki basically saw school as just something his parents made him attend but he didn’t have much interest in it.
Due to so much movement from city to city (Newark, Tampa, Miami) with his family and attending a new school each year in a totally new environment, he noticed how people would act and the different personality’s they had. It was very difficult to make friends when you don’t know anyone and you are starting all over every year; you had to adjust to it. From the age of 7–16, Truki visited Cuba each year during winter and summer school breaks. His parents didn’t want him to get influenced by the streets and tried to keep him out of trouble. He started Hanging around gangs but never got into one, he saw more of the hustle side of things consisting of Dope Dealing, Robbing, Hoe Popping, Etc.
Things that he saw as an adventure and a money making opportunity, he was in! He took more of his uncle’s traits in personality and his father’s schemes of hustling and business dealing. Truki always had a way of getting along with people cause of his natural charisma; he has always kept an old fashioned style since he was raised around men twice his age. Like every villain, Truki had his fair share of run-ins with the law but every time, it was a lesson learned. He finally realized that the ones that chase the easy fast money don’t last. Throughout his whole life he kept writing music as an escape until his cousin Nando told him to get serious about it and that people really like your music and what you have to say.
Around the age of 21 he then started to network thru his security jobs and met artists such as Don Dinero who he became close friends and was a music mentor to Truki. Dinero explained to Truki that the music game is something very serious and grimy and very few people succeed; you have to be dedicated and committed . . . That’s when Truki took action and was devoted to his music and made it a career!
The music you get from this artist stems from various influences. From Telling a story like Pac and The Notorious B.I.G. with a Spanglish swag like The Punisher Big Pun to comedic punch lines in both English and Spanish. Truki has also crossover appeal from hip hop to dance pop culture. Truki has also made appearances on the Reality TV Show, South Beach Tow. Truki is a very diverse talented artist!
