MAFU Crew / Bio
M.A.F.U Crew
What does M.A.F.U mean? Music that Alters the Forms of Underground would be the translation of the name of this hot reggaeton group. Three puertorican kids with the same dream from different parts of the world with the same culture united on a journey….
The M.A.F.U Crew story begins in 2001, when Felix Perez "Doble" was residing in the barracks at MCB Quantico, Va while in the Unites States Marine Corps. Being on active duty he meets Franz Diubell Ortega, a fellow Marine that was also a very talented musician and had a passion for music. One day in the barracks Diubell was playing the piano and Doble walks in, automatically starts to sing to the sounds of Diubell.Right there they knew they had something. They kept at it in the barracks, but everybody that heard them kept telling them that they sounded great and that they should record a CD.
On a trip to New York City Doble visits a club called “The Villas” where he sees a young man free styling on stage with a salsa band. He thought the kid was pretty good and crazy so he approached him to see if he wanted to join him in his future mission. The mission of doing a Cd. The kid agreed. Luis Ortiz also known as Luchiano from Wappingers Falls, NY liked the idea of a new adventure in music and decided to move with Doble to Virginia.
During rehearsals one day Doble comes to the studio with a friend that he had met in the basketball court earlier that day. Francisco (Franky Forty) Rosado came to the rehearsal to give Doble and Luchiano an opinion on how they sounded. As they were rehearsing Doble hears Forty singing one of their songs and asked him to keep singing. Doble and Luchiano liked what they heard and asked Forty to join them in their venture. After months of practices and low budget shows they started billing themselves as MAFU Crew. They believed that things would start to happen for them professionally if they could just be heard by the right person. That person was Mr. Sandro Burgos from Code Red Entertainment. Mr. Burgos gave MAFU the chance to come out in his production called “Code Red, El Imperio”. It was a hit…The song “Ahora Lloras Por Mi” by MAFU Crew didn’t take long to hit international radio airwaves. It became one of the most requested songs in Central and South America and one of the most searched videos all over the internet with more than 2 million views.
Things got a little dull when MAFU Crew signed a contract with an independent label that didn’t have the funds to take on their production, as a result of that they were not able to come out with anything in the radio for a period of 5 years. But the Dream was too strong to give up. In 2007 the contract was over, and Mafu Crew had a plan. To become famous United. And this is what they have done so far…..
Since the expiration of the contract, Mafu Crew has accomplished a lot of their goals.
