Damian is a Double Bassist who has been a major contributor to jazz in Ireland since his arrival in 1997. He is leader of the Damian Evans Trio and co-leader of the Boylan/Buckley/Evans Trio. He is a member of the Hugh Buckley/Richie Buckley group, Isotope, and the Honor Heffernan Group. Damian is often called to work with major touring artists visiting Ireland including Terrel Stafford, Johnathon Kriesburg, Jean Toussant, Jason Rubello, Tim Warfield and Soweto Kinch as well as fellow Australians Jamie Oehlers and Paul Williamson. Damian also helped establish the Galway Jazz Festival and Galway Jazz Club before moving to Dublin.
As well as leading his own piano trio and being extremely active in the Irish jazz scene, Damian also participates in the DIT Symphony Orchestra and the Hibernian Orchestra. He completed a Masters in Jazz Performance at Dublin Institute of Technology. In 2011, Damian was awarded a Fiosraigh Scholarship, Dean of Graduate Students Award to complete his doctoral research with the Graduate School of Creative Arts & Media (GradCAM) & DIT. His areas of interest lay in the study of interaction within jazz trios and the latest rhythmic developments in contemporary jazz. It is these interests that inform his own trio.
