Steep formed in the summer of 2011 as friends pursuing and exploring their core: music. Once they discovered how much fun they had playing together, things quickly transformed into something much more. Shortly after, Steep entered into the 2011 Monster Energy Battle of the Bands at the Westcott Theater. With a whole slew of originals and cover songs of various styles already under their belt, Steep was able to secure first place after six months and three rounds in competition with sixty other bands. Steep was rewarded with recording time available for use at More Sound Studios, which they've since used towards the crafting of their debut album.
In Steep's short time together, they've shared the stage with acts such as Perpetual Groove, Jimkata, The Ryan Montbleau Band, Marco Benevento, and others. Steep touches on a wide variety of styles anywhere from jazz-funk, to prog-rock epics that are often painted with a masterful display of improvisation. To quote Syracuse University's Loud and Clear:
"Not to diminish Jimkata’s excellence, but credit must be given where due. Located at the corner of Chill Avenue and Groove Street (in Funkytown – the capital of Jamsville, USA), Steep did an excellent job getting the crowd nice and loose. They only played three songs, but the length and musical progression of each track acted as a perfect example of how quality outshines quantity. Weaving through a variety of musical languages, the band touched on everything from funk-rap (similar to Dispatch) to Lotus-like electro-jams."
