Born: October 16, 1976 Hometown: Wichita, KS Occupation: United States Navy
I started singing when I was a wee-sized lad. My first tones and melodies were not always pleasant to hear, but I kept it up. I sang in school plays and at church and never imagined that I would do much more than that.
I picked up the guitar in 1994 and began teaching myself how to play. It wasn't long before I began putting my own lyrics to my own melodies and quickly came up with one of my first songs, 'Spoon'.
Being a self-taught guitar player, I often broke strings on my full-bodied Ovation and had to buy strings at least once a week. I got to know the guy behind the desk at the music store pretty well and one day he asked if I were interested in signing up in the "Guitarists Wanted" book. I mentioned that I could sing better than play guitar and he quickly spun out the "Vocalists Wanted" book. I put my name down out of sheer amusement and was quickly contacted by many bands. I played with quite a few before I found one that had a sound that fit my style.
We named our band "Nobody" and played a lot of local bars in Wichita Kansas. The band consisted of four memebers: Steve Easter, Scotty Barton, Mike Peters, and myself. We recorded a self-titled album that received a lot of local air play in Wichita. We played for about two years before I shipped off into the U.S. Navy for a little excitement in 1998.
Twelve years later, I have two boys and three step-children, I am still in the Navy, and I still enjoy writing and playing music. I entered into Newport Rhode Island's, Newport Idol competition in April of 2010 and received the grand prize during the finals in May. The grand prize winner received paid time at Reel to Real studio in Cranston, RI; where I quickly recorded my first solo/acoustic album.
Life has been one long song for me with a lot more music to come. Thank you for taking the time to get to know me a little! Take care and keep on spooning!
