Dachshund / Bio

Like the animal we’re named after, Dachshund is a strange but appealing breed. Our music borrows in equal measure from New Wave, Punk, Classic Pop, and Progressive Rock, resulting in songs which blur genre lines and challenge listener expectations.

Because our music resists easy categorization, we often find ourselves inventing new labels to describe it. Jazzpunk? Progressive Luddite? Surely, the best description of our music would be some sort of oxymoron, some kind of contradiction in terms.

Dachshund hails from Tulsa, Oklahoma. We’ve been at this since 2006, and we still haven’t learned to sit down, stay, or heel.

We are comprised of:

Eric Hartley, who plays guitar, sings, and writes about half our material. The moodier, doomier half of our material.

Ryan Dannar, who also plays guitar and sings, and who writes the other half of our material, as well as most of our promotional texts, including this one. Ryan, for all intents and purposes, acts as the band’s manager, even though he’s not very good at it. It’s probably an ego thing.

Andy Jenson, who plays the bass-guitar and complains a lot because he is old.

Adam Karleskint, who plays drums and is polite enough to laugh when we make jokes.

We released our first self-produced album, “The Ballad of Shorty Long,” in November 2011. It’s available for purchase on iTunes, CD Baby, and Amazon.com, and is streaming from Spotify, Grooveshark, Last.fm, and a bazillion other internozzles.

We’re currently playing shows in Tulsa and the surrounding areas, while looking to expand our gigging territory into major music markets in the midwest and elsewhere. We’re also starting to work on our second album, which we’d like to record in a real studio, rather than in a tin shack with coffee-cans for microphones. But we’ll see what happens…
