About
Description
We see ourselves as an alternative rock band with classic influences. We started playing together back in 2006 and have focused on writing a collection of original music. In December of 2006, our band recorded the theme song for the movie Blank Canvas, which became our High School's second (award winning) feature film. In March of 2007 we won Battle of the Bands at Valley Center High School. We aspire to express our own views through performing the music we love. See our website for more info.
Band Members
Brett Parkola (Guitar)
Evan Stumpges (Bass/Vocals)
Joseph Schwartz (Keyboard/Vocals)
Cameron Izadi (Drums/Vocals)
Our Name
Many people ask us what our name means and it is pronounced. Arcanic is a unique derivation of the word arcane, which means mysterious, secret, or understood by few. As far as pronunciation is concerned, Arcanic rhymes with the word mechanic.
Bio
The band was originally envisioned in 2004 by Joseph Schwartz and Van Kubart accompanying their newfound friendship. Several months later, they began the search for other band members. Originally they found guitarist Jarred Thomas, bassist Evan Gravlin, and drummer Billy Mazza. This early band adopted the name "Twisted Politicians". They played a show at Bates Nut Farm in which they covered "25 or 6 to 4" and "Stairway to Heaven" as well as playing two original songs. Soon thereafter, Jarred left the band.
When Joseph Schwartz and Van Kubart entered high school in 2005, they wanted a more serious band lineup. Having heard Evan Stumpges play bass at the Coronado Jazz Festival the year before, they sought him as a replacement for Evan Gravlin. Luckily, Evan's brother Jeremy, an excellent guitarist, also offered to join the band as Jarred's replacement. Under the name "Anarchy5", this band created early versions of the songs "Today, Please" and "Missing in Action." The band performed at the third annual Teen Talent show in Valley Center and picked up a third place award in the instrumental category.
Shortly after the show, Billy Mazza, Evan Stumpges, and Jeremy Stumpges left the band to join saxophone player Garrett Babcock in a band named "Disengaged". This band wrote a few new songs but didn't play any shows. During this time, Joseph and Van also created some new songs of their own. Later, that year, they persuaded Evan and Jeremy to rejoin the band. In need of a drummer, Evan brought the accomplished Cameron Izadi into the group. Since then, the band has really taken off.
Lead singer, Joseph Schwartz, came up with the name "Arcanic" for this new band lineup. Later, he created the band logo as well. Arcanic performed at the Carlsbad Battle of the Bands in January 2006. Unfortunately, shortly thereafter, Van Kubart had to leave the band, so Jeremy Stumpges assumed the difficult role of playing both rhythm and lead guitar.
In August 2006, Jeremy Stumpges left the band to pursue other interests and was replaced by Brett Parkola a guitarist from Fallbrook. Since then, Arcanic has been focusing on writing new, original material. The album "Eclipsed" was released in January 2008.
