Q: How did you get started producing music? I am working on a couple songs and I want to make a digital version of them. Maybe work towards an album... But I just dont know where to start.
A: It starts with an investment of a lot of time, and whatever money you have to work with, you've got to be willing to be the PRIMARY investor in your dreams. For me it started with a cheap Casio keyboard, but it was a start. When it comes to producing music, being able to play the piano is #1 in my book, it has given me the ability to express beautiful dynamics of soft & raw emotion thru the use of midi and virtual instruments. The most important thing is to start NOW with whatever you have or whatever you can afford. The technology is not as important as your technique which in order to be GREAT, has to develop over time. And over time you will have access to better equipment. These days you can create great music with an iPhone, with an App like BeatMaker (which I totally use) and a voice recorder. Whatever tool or instrument you choose, it's important to be able to travel with it, or spend as much time as possible with it. Those we consider to be Geniuses are so because of the insane amount of time they spent on their craft.
