Andy Long is a bass guitarist from Newport in South Wales. Over the years he has played with many different bands, all of whom made some great music, but totally failed to conquer the world.
These days Andy's primary gig is with the worship band at St. Julian's Baptist Church in Newport. He has a jazz band, Close Quarters, playing standards and contemporary tunes. He also is vice-chairman of the Islwyn Acoustic Guitar Club which meets in Cross Keys, Gwent.
In the last few years Andy has started to record solo bass pieces, using a Line 6 looper and an array of effects. The primary influence for these pieces has been Steve Lawson, a great friend and teacher. After listening to Steve and other similar solo bassists Andy decided to try it out and see what he could come up with. "I don't make any claim to be on the same level as my influences," says Andy, "but I'm enjoying exploring the possibilities and I hope that other people will enjoy what I've come up with so far."
The possibilites of the internet and home recording have also enabled Andy to record some duo and trio pieces with fellow bassists Alun Vaughan, Graham Clark and Brittany Frompovich. You can find those tracks on this page too and Andy has every good intention of splitting the vast fortune he is about to make with his playing partners...honest!
