About
American Speedway formed in the beginning of February 2007. Throughout the next several months, they earned their mark as powerful local live rock and roll band that can move a tough crowd, easily make new drinking buddies, and make club owners happy. They began to play shows with legendary acts such as Murphy’s Law, Electric Frankenstein, Scott H. Biram, Wednesday 13, Joe Buck (Hank III), etc. and soon found shows outside of the Philadelphia area: New York, Cleveland, Boston, Chicago, Baltimore, DC, Pittsburgh and several, several others. In February 2008, they also embarked on a two week west coast tour invading San Diego, Las Angeles, Anaheim, Las Vegas, etc.
On January 21, 2008, American Speedway released their debut record “Ship of Fools” on vinyl that included a CD in the package. Of course, the CD contained all 10 songs available on the Vinyl. Do to increasing demand by fans, the band decided to release a CD version. The CD issue of “Ship of Fools” was released on Oct. 28, 2008 by Prophase Music, distributed exclusively by MVD. As a special bonus, The CD issue includes two bonus tracks not available on the original vinyl release.
Because of the bands quick success in the mainstream market, their powerful live show, and keen ability to bring “real” rock & roll to fans, the band has secured reviews and write up’s in major National publications such as AMP, Classic Rock Magazine, Exclaim!, along with many local and regional entertainment publications throughout the country.
American Speedway managed to secure airtime on Sirius Satellite Radio. Their hit single “One Foot In, One Foot Out” remained in Top 10 Most Songs Played on Sirius Radio’s weekly Punk chart, channel 29, for 5 months starting late Spring, 2008. From that point on, the band gained new fans daily, many of which would drive long distances just to see the band where ever they were playing. One month later, “One Foot In, One Foot Out” was added to cable TV’s radio station, Music Choice and satellite radio DMX.
In August 2008, the band caught the eye of the marketing powerhouse, The Syndicate, who signed up to market and promote “Ship of Fools” to radio, press and other entertainment media outlets. For the week of Nov. 11th, the title track to the album was added to 36 commercial radio stations and 56 college radio stations, making “Ship of Fools” #5 Most Added according to FMQB, the radio industry’s leading trade publication (www.fmqb.com). A week later, “Ship of Fools” charted at #36 on CMJ’s Hard Rock Select Chart (College Music Journal).
With “Ship of Fools” out for well over a year, continued success at Radio and rave reviews on their live show, American Speedway embarked on a week long tour as direct main support for the legendary Tesco Vee and The Meatmen in April 2009. The band also supported The Supersuckers and Mike Watt in May 2009.
The main philosophy of the band is to play what THEY like, and that’s “real” rock & roll. They aren’t here to win musician competitions or be the next biggest thing. They are here to play what THEY like and have a great time live on stage.
In January, 2010, the band is set to release their sophomore release “A Bigger Boat”, which will be available on both Vinyl and Cd. The Vinyl will include a special card so fans can download the entire album. Both formats will be released by Prophase Music, distributed worldwide by MVD Entertainment Group.
