About
Biography
Chinese-American pianist Alexis Zhu has been igniting audiences worldwide by her
spellbinding performances, vivid sense of drama, and captivating sincerity. She has been
recognized as one of the most exciting new pianists of her generation. Alexis’s 2006-2007
season was highlighted by her acclaimed Carnegie Hall debut in Weill Recital Hall,
sponsored by the La Gesse Foundation. She was also the First Prize Winner in the
Senior Division of the William Garrison International Piano Competition. Born in Shanghai,
Alexis came to the states where she made her first concerto appearances at the age of 11.
Since then, she has performed all over the United States, and abroad as well as numerous appearances in festivals; as a CliburnYoung Artist, at the Las Vegas Music Festival,
Pianofest in the Hamptons, the Bowdoin International Music Festival, and the Mannes
International Keyboard Institute and Festival. As an up-and-coming Pedagogue, Alexis has
been teaching on the Piano Faculty of the Preparatory/Precollege Division of the Peabody Conservatory since 2006. She will be begin her D.M.A at the Manhattan School of Music,
this Fall 2008. M.M.- The Peabody Conservatory with Yong Hi Moon. B.M.-the University
of Michigan-Ann Arbor; with Arthur Greene. Other teachers and mentors have included
Boris Slutsky, Paul Schenly, Logan Skelton, Oleg Barsov, Zalina Gurevich, and Boaz Sharon. Masterclass appearances with Jerome Lowenthal, Jerome Rose, Nelita True, Gabriel Chodos,
Mykola Suk, Robert Shannon, Tamas Ungar, Misha Dichter, and Radoslav Kvapil.
