Bio
In this era of auto-tune and airbrushing, it’s rare to find a new band that legitimately knows their shit. Anyone can be an “artist” due to the luxuries of technology, but not everyone has talent. Attending one show by San Francisco's the Action Design proves they have musical talent aplenty.
Perhaps that's because the members are not without prior experience: Emily Whitehurst and Matt Mckenzie (vocals, bass) were in the successful punk band Tsunami Bomb, while Jaycen McKissick (guitar) toured the world in Pipedown and Jake Krohn (drums) was born with drumsticks in his hands. The Action Design can craft an energetic pop song and execute it swimmingly, though they do it with an honest love of music and without pretentious expectations.
About
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU CLICK ON "JOIN THE STREET TEAM" UNDER THE BAND PHOTO IF YOU WISH TO JOIN THE STREET TEAM, OTHERWISE IT WILL JUST LOG YOU AS A FAN. THANK YA! When we first started this band we had no plan other than we wanted to attempt to challenge our own and other's ideas of the the way a band made music and presented it to people. Just as we would do our best to eliminate the preconceived barriers we had been carrying with us our whole life when writing music for our new band, we would also set an inordinate goal to try and change the way people came to shows and approached the idea of a rock/punk/pop/whatever band. of course, this is a fairly lofty and seemingly unattainable premise for which to start a band but then we began to notice a change- especially over this last tour.
I don't think we could put into words the amount of appreciation and fortune we feel when we pull into a town we have never been to before and are greeted with a crowd of people armed with smiles, open minds, and a readiness to sing, dance, and share with us. The amount of energy and movement you guys have put into the air every night has only made us realize that we are some of the luckiest people in the world. As a band, we are beginning to experience something inherently different with the Action Design.
And here we are, one year later from when the band would become active with our very first tours and we can only say that this journey has been absolutely amazing thus far. We have learned from these tours the importance of not simply accepting some mundane lifestyle or paint-by-numbers existence handed down to us by others. This attitude was what brought this band together- we wanted to create something for ourselves that would serve as a constant reminder that we were indeed still alive.
But then our little family grew... and grew... and with each show we would add more people until we realized that there is an entire community out there of people that want to experience the same things as us- people that have refused to sink into their couch and slowly feed their life in sound-bite ridden, convenient one hour segments to their television. As we realized this with each show, we also learned that the Action Design was not only our band- rather, it belonged to all of us. It belonged to every person that came to the show and left their inhibitions and stale misconceptions at the door.
Keep coming out to the shows and hanging out with us. Keep dancing and singing along.
And most of all, keep that smile on your face. It means the world to us- thank you.
love, the Action Design
