"Sicadia" Album Review, Matthew Smith brings a punky, angst filled tenor voice and an overdriven guitar to an alt-rock party with Annabeth Connaughy on drums and Drew Wheeler playing bass. The band makes a statement from the beginning: The first track, "Burn Like The Stars" , begins with nearly a full minute of overdriven rock guitar. It simply prepares the listener for what's to come, an album that doesn't suffer from the typical freshman troubles. Sicadia has a defined direction: to bring its audience to a space between a punk-rock mosh pit and a headbanger's ball. Sicadia is a straightforward album; there's no genre-bending songs here. The band wanted to make an alt-rock punk album and they did. They did it so well, in fact, that the album sucks the listener from the wild and dangerous world of today and takes then back to the 1990's, when things were easier and, well, less dangerous. That's what defines this album.
