About
History:
Pink and Purple is an Ottawa based band, assembled in an impromptu jam session on New Years Eve 2004. This set the stage for a later endeavour involving a more serious and structured musical arrangement. After semi-substantial practice the band performed at its first public appearance, a high school coffeehouse. On hearing the recording from that night, the band decided that though there was potential, it was higher than what we had currently achieved.
After another coffeehouse performance in 2005, we were approached by keyboardist Edmund Chung who was interested in sharing our musical vision. Edmund joined the band for two shows playing keyboard on Knockin' On Heaven's Door, Life is a Highway, and Stacy's Mom.
After the April 2007 Coffee House, we decided to venture into a recording studio. Unfortunately, both Edmund and Mark were not able to make the date that was set out. So we set out to find a replacement drummer. This drummer materialized in the form of Sam Cote, the friend of a friend, and also coincidentally the son of John's Piano tuner. Sam helped the group make it through their recording session, helping write our first original song "Alone". The band was so impressed by his personality and skills they asked him to join up.
The future of the band is as large as its musical repetoire, we are expected to perform more public performances. Applications have been sent out to several local venues and we are hoping that something will come up. The recording side of the band will also co-exist with performances, as we hope to expand our range and music.
Influences:
Pink and Purple draws influences like pictures, at times, very different ones. As with lots of bands, each member, while bringing their own individual personality to the band, also brings their musical tastes. It would be hard to label the band under any genre, because of this, however we attempt to retain some form of rock-based music, other songs that come up are intended to please an individual in the band, so as not to upset the rest.
