“n less than a year, 8 Foot Grimiss has written almost fifteen original songs, played shows on the east side of the state and has shared a stage with some big names in rock, including Great White, Taproot and Stephen Pearcy of Ratt. “The style in my personal opinion is 8 Foot Grimiss,” Schmitz said. “Go ahead and call it blues rock like it says in our profile but it’s one of those groups where people ask, ‘Who do you sound like?’ Well, we don’t (sound like anyone else). We all just enjoy playing music together.” The sound may be one of a kind, but that doesn’t mean the band isn’t influenced by other artists. He’s right about that. Skimming around the 8 Foot Grimiss Facebook page showcases the band’s vast musical abilities. A track like “Poison” is pure groove-laden Chicago Blues while a song such as “What Are We Fighting For” could have found its way onto an early Collective Soul album.”

“For that purpose, the bands will be joined with many food vendors and other service providers to create a new event in Battle Creek. It's one that has some local musicians excited about having a new venue to play their stuff. "I'm originally from here," 8 Foot Grimiss frontman Don Daniel said. "When I first heard about it, I thought it was the best thing I heard in a while. I like to listen to music almost more than I like to play it." Daniel described his group's sound as a perfect synthesis of funk and metal, a brand of old-school metal that's steeped in the traditions of the blues. "Everybody seems to want to put in their best effort to bring in the most people," Daniel said. "We don't do this around here and it's kind of cool."”

““It’s not so much that Battle Creek is centered around metal, as it is Battle Creek has one dedicated music venue in Planet Rock, focused on rock and metal, and they do a great job of promoting their shows,” said Jones. “There is also a large blues, jazz, punk, bluegrass and folk music scene in our area and this will be evident at our show.” Anyone that needs concrete evidence to the fact can direct themselves to the Leila Arboretum on July 30 for the inaugural Leilapalooza, a show Jones is helping put together. The event is free to the public, featuring 32 bands from all over Michigan, merchants, a beer garden, food vendors and free admission to the Children’s Garden from 1 to 3 p.m. The music kicks off at 11 a.m. with the Cereal City Concert Band and continues into the evening with bands like Gunship Radio, 8 Foot Grimiss, and Tobawah performing on three different stages. ”
