DESCRIPTION:
74th Street Band is the unification of three lifelong friends who have been making music together for over three decades. Randy Clark, Robert Pettycrew and James "Louie" Lewis grew up together in the 74th St. area of Phoenix, AZ. Each an accomplished musician in his own right, as a team they provide a unique blend of rock and blues to fans across the valley. With the addition of a rhythm section consisting of bassist Lyle Engle and drummer Matt O'Brien, 74th Street produces raw, hard driving, classic and southern rock and roll which audiences love to hear. 74th Street's song list includes a mix of cover songs from the 1960's through today and blends them with a mix of danceable original tunes. 74th Street is one of the valley's hottest rock bands!



Randy Clark has been playing guitar for close to 30 years. While stationed in Germany during his military career, Randy played with three different bands, most notably the band Signal who opened for Blood Sweat & Tears for some of their USO shows. Back in the states, Randy was asked to play guitar, co-produce, and co-write with The Jon Sparks Band which had the opportunity to open for Toto. After a short hiatus, Randy began playing again with his life-long friend/guitarist Louie Lewis. They recruited another long-time friend/guitarist Robert Pettycrew, and with the addition of Lyle Engle and Matt O'Brien, 74th St was born. "With this band, this is the most fun I think I have ever had playing music." said Randy. "I grew up and went to school with these guys, it just doesn't get much better than this."

Robert Pettycrew is a 3rd generation native Arizonan. A former Scottsdale City Councilman, Robert took his first guitar lesson at the age of 9, and played in many bands throughout his young life. Moving to Colorado in the 1970's to pursue his music career, Robert played with the bands Rockin' Chair, Hanky Banister and Joaquin Pass. Moving back to Arizona in the 1980's he was recruited by local favorite The Hired Help band. Robert frequently shares the stage with local Blues favorites Chuck Hall and Big Pete Pearson, laying down his searing guitar licks and melodic vocals and harmonies. He has also shared the stage with the legendary musician Jerry Riopelle. Robert, along with his two childhood friends/guitarists Randy Clark and James "Louie" Lewis and with drummer Matt O'Brien and bassist Lyle Engle continues to produce hard driving, rockin' blues with 74th St, the perfect inspiration for his creative song writing ability.

James �Louie� Mike Lewis began playing guitar in the summer of 1978 his friend Robert Pettycrew and band mate Brad Copper. After attending Roberto Venn School of Luthiery in 1984 he landed a job building guitars in Texas where he was bitten by the Texas Blues bug. After returning to Arizona in 1990 his performing took a back seat to building and repairing guitars. In 2003 the bug bit again and Louie was building and playing guitars with a passion. He joined up with Randy and Robert and they recruited Lyle Engle on bass. Louie currently builds and repairs guitars full time at Bronson Guitar Works in Scottsdale AZ for many local notables, including George Benson. As Louie states�."you will never see me play a guitar that I didn't build myself from the ground up!"

 
Lyle Engle began his musical career studying classical piano and guitar in Ogden, Utah and developed an appreciation for the great composers such as Beethoven and Mozart. He honed his live skills playing weddings and before his church membership, but quickly decided rock and roll was his calling. He continued to jam with various bands until relocating to Phoenix, AZ where he took up the bass. Through mutual friends, Lyle met Randy, Robert and Lou and as quickly recruited to add some low end to their three guitar attack. Lyle brings a strong sense of humor to the group, but when it comes to laying down the rhythm, he's all business.

 

Matt O�Brien has been playing drums and percussion since the age of 7. Cutting his teeth in the Baltimore/Washington D.C. area he continued with advanced musical study throughout his academic career, as a percussionist in various concert, symphony and marching bands. Matt began playing rock and roll in the mid 1970's with such bands as New World, Blue Moon and The Jubal Early Band. He was also highly sought after as a fill-in drummer with various local bands, including the Road Ducks where he backed singer Phil McCormack of The Molly Hatchet Band. After a move to Portland, OR in 1996 Matt was recruited by the Lon McHill Band. Matt has also shared stages in Austin, TX with some of the towns' premier blues musicians, including Mike Milligan, Leland Parks, Derek Wayne and Andy Macintyre. Matt relocated to Phoenix in 2003 and joined forces with 74th St providing the much needed hard driving, steady groove. He continues to impress audiences with his clock-like meter and rhythm. He has a keen sense for knowing when less is more, but can provide the necessary licks when appropriate.
