Pure luck and other circumstances called life guided into indie-jazzy and power-psycho, bringing out the punk rocker in me. So first time I listened to The Killer’s Hot Fuss album I felt happy, and directly came a feeling:
I can do this, this is good stuff and people seem to like it. So let’s. Me and my musical friends,
M (guitar) and Beo (bass & drum programming) formed Your Light Now and started recording with a computer. We had good songs, but in the end, it did not sound to my ears as it did in my mind. Like James Brown once said: “I can see him play the funky guitar but I can’t hear it”.
Then Diana (trumpet) and Einar (keys) came onboard. All of a sudden things started to fit, with their musical background and skills they added to the songwriting, and contributed to an effectiveness in the impact, and now it came out with a punch. The jazzy parts,
which our songs already had, in both harmony and melody, now came out naturally.
The same with the electronic influences, the repetitive buildup of the songs, now you could feel it made sense.
We were looking for a metropolitan, modern and retro sound, with a natural groove, and intense beat and nerve, communicating a message of dignity and open minded relations where you take care of each other.
I strongly believe that the technology development will allow people to develop and look for a better world. Being more educated, they will force society to be more open for all. At the same time I believe that the old traditions about how to prepare your food, ecological and produced locally, are right. I also find the gentlemanly behavior of old times, where people could be odd but where respected, and people listened to new ideas without starting a fight or a war, is something to strive for.
We started to take our songs into the studio, and met with Martin of Peekaboo Studios. It was a collaboration that soon developed into a mutual understanding, friendship and good progress. He helped to take it further on the road, giving the songs an even more natural impact. The unique and creative parts came out smooth, they were just there now, as natural as a new born baby.
Just as things were looking very great, only delayed by me working periods on offshore oil platforms in the North Sea, Diana decided to stay in Australia, where she studied. Yes, she settled there after meeting a lovely man “down under”. Who could blame her?
We really did not know how to handle the band, but I went over there to do some mobile trumpet recordings, and she has also been back in Sweden, for more songwriting and recording.
So finally we have “Swedish Eyes” ready for release as soon as we have found a commercial partner. We also have more really good songs, as we have continued with the creative process.
I should say there are 3 more albums to expect from Your Light Now. 4 albums is kind of a creative limit for an artist - am I wrong? I do not count “the download sessions EP” as an album, although it is a funny record, showing our early progress.
As of now, we are also looking into forming a classy live act to perform with Your Light Now material. I’m not saying that the early live performances you can find on Youtube and on “the download sessions EP” were bad, but progress is what we live for, also when talking about live Performances.
