Whitey Somers
Guitarist Singer Songwriter
"Original roots and blues with infectious grooves that will have you dancin’ in your shoes!"
Since the age of 16, recording artist, guitarist, singer, songwriter Whitey Somers has performed his songs to appreciative audiences, from clubs and theaters to festivals and more. Where he shines is as a songwriter. Whitey’s songs are a reflection of life and times through Canadian eyes. A journeyman with a lifetime of stories. On his guitar, he's a versatile player from slow blues to meaty riffs and catchy solos. A well-seasoned singer that can hit all the right notes.
As a nephew of Juno award-winning Canadian composer Harry Somers, Whitey found an early love of music, a pool he most happily dove into. Having lived in Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia and now residing in Shaunavon Saskatchewan, traveling and life have been his teachers. "Music filled my life, and still does.
He’s placed in numerous album charts and songwriting competitions over the years, including taking third place in the 2025 International Songwriters Day Song Contest for his song "A Free Man" and being nominated by The Elite Music Awards as 2025 Songwriter of the year. Most recently Whitey won the "Road To Memphis" competition in Saskatoon, and went on to represent the Saskatoon Blues Society at The International Blues Challenge in Memphis in January 2026. His latest release is a 10-track album titled "The Call of the Blues."
