I found myself at a professional crossroads years back where the singer/songwriter thing seemed all too common and musically unchallenging. I discovered a genre of guitar playing that said more without lyrics than any I'd ever heard. Finger style guitar combines all components of a band into one arrangement and like a painting, it gives you only a title, allowing the listener the freedom to choose their own adventure without being given direction lyrically. Beautiful cascading melody, imaginative and sometimes percussive accompaniment and fascinating open tunings all wrapped up in one song. No pedals, no over dubbing, no obnoxious vocals. Just me.
