At age 7, he lost his father, but not before being influenced by his guitar playing which was the beginning of David’s life long love affair with music. He would later hear the stories of how steel guitar legend Speedy West would drop by and jam with his Dad. David channeled his music interests into writing rather than playing. At the age of 18, David starting working at a cup factory where he met another young worker who told him he was only working long enough to have money to make the move to Nashvile. David wanted to do that as well, but it took 30 years for him to act. He had developed Parkinson’s disease and decided there was no sense delaying his dream. He got in touch with his old friend, now a hit writer in Nashville, and asked him what he should do. It was Tim Nichols, and Tim told Dave the first thing he should do is join NSAI, which he did. He also learned the craft through mentors like Billy Dean and Marc-Alan Barnette and now co-writes song in Nashville, by Skype, email, however he can get the songs done. He is now living his dream and not letting his condition get in the way of being the best songwriter he can be.
