Victor Monsivais has been performing Bossa Nova, Brazilian Samba classics, as well as Jazz Standards, Latin Jazz and his own compositions in a variety of ensembles and venues in the GTA for over a decade including the legendary Rex Hotel, the Reservoir Lounge, Gate 403, the Gladstone Hotel and the Lula lounge.
His repertoire draws from the greatest Brazilian composers such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Newton Mendoça, Ary Barroso, Dorival Caymmi and Ze Ketti, singing their compositions in the original Portuguese versions. The same applies for the Latin pieces of their repertoire: Victor plays Buenavista Social Club, Santana, Consuelo Velazquez and all other Latin great ones in their original Spanish versions. And when performing Jazz Standards: Ellington, Van Heusen, Arlen, he renders the original English versions. He plays the guitar with the true Bossa, Swing and Latin beats.
Victor's practice as a musician goes back for almost forty years. He is a composer, arranger and band leader; and also plays piano, harmonica and percussion.
Monsivais was trained as an Architect and has over twenty-five years experience in the fields of Architecture and Urban Design. However, Music is his mistress: He does not only believe that Architecture is frozen Music but also that Music is Architecture in fluid motion through time.
