Underground Massacre is the long-running alternative metal project of College Station, Texas-based artist Des — a raw, heavy hybrid of sludge, punk, and experimental rock the band calls “Anarchy of Sound.”
Formed on January 31, 2004, in Allen, Texas, with Vadim Zabarskiy, the band cut its teeth in the Dallas punk scene with shows at the Red Blood Club. After relocating to Washington state, Des rebuilt the lineup with guitarist Loegan Miller and bassist Mitchell Johnson.
In 2008, the project suffered a devastating loss when Zabarskiy died in a motorcycle accident in Texas. Des carried the band forward — returning to Plano, Texas, and later Los Angeles, where years of recording, reworking, and reinvention forged the band’s current identity: equal parts Nirvana’s gut-punch and the dread-soaked atmosphere of Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka.
Now based in College Station, Texas, and joined by longtime collaborator Joshua Shaffer and remote bassist Aakash Vagarya — “the heaviest, mind-piercing sounds” — Underground Massacre has amassed a catalog of 30+ tracks spanning sludge, punk, and cinematic experiment.
