About the Artist

Asheboro, NC native, Ty Bru has been professionally active in the independent music scene for over two decades, performing all over the world with tours in Europe and then being a mainstay in Shanghai, China for 5 years before recently finding a home back in North Carolina as a living legend. A 2005 graduate of Appalachian State University, Bru reached new heights by attaining a total of 5 degrees including International Business, Communication, Marketing, Journalism and Management and always used that education to guide him through maneuvering in the art and entertainment world. In 2007 his debut solo album, "On The Brink" was released through Mightier Than The Sword Records, caught the ears of OkayPlayer and made a tremendous impact worldwide by boasting the honor of being chosen by a distinguished panel of judges as the runner up for hip hop/rap album of the year at the 7th annual Independent Music Awards (IMAs) and later in 2016 his collaborative album with label mate, Tenacious ending up taking top honors for Hip Hop Album Of The Year at the 15th annual Independent Music Award Ceremonies at the Lincoln Center, NYC beating out hip hop pioneer, Masta Ace. In early 2023, Bru's hip hop hybrid stageplay, "A Night In Charlotte With Sweeney Ty" was selected and became an award winner at the Golden State Film Festival which was at the world famous TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Ty Bru has released songs with Sadat X, Stat Quo, PMD, The Hit Squad, Snoop Dogg, Cam'ron, Jadakiss, Tash of The Alkaholiks and Judah Priest and his unforgettable, energetic and original up close and personal performances put him in a class all by himself as he has earned the right to share the stage with such names as Chuck D (Public Enemy), Jedi Mind Tricks, MC Frontalot, Keith Murray, Parrish Smith, Rittz, Avril Lavigne (Shanghai), Big Sean, A$AP Rocky, Method Man, Redman, Andre 3000 (In Europe), Big Boi, Chino XL, Fiend, Ludacris, Nappy Roots, Snoop Dogg, Linkin Park (Shanghai),Wiz Khalifa, Badfish, Yealawolf, Mr. Dibbs, Coolio, Ying Yang Twinz, Bubba Sparxxx, Curren$y, Dana Dane, The ThoughtCriminals, Poe Mack, Marshall Alexander & more. Ty Bru stays atop of the Our Stage and Reverbnation Charts both while he lived in China and also back at home in NC and is a member of the Iconoclast Crew, which includes the triad area powerhouses, Ed E. Ruger, DJ Phillie Phresh, Double J The Jenius & Stitchy C. Currently, in 2025, Bru is working on celebrating 20 years of the label he founded, Mightier Than The Sword Records by year long campaigns and monthly events that focuses on the rich history MTTS has provided the entertainment world, while working on his ninth solo studio album, continuing his consistency in proving he is exactly "The Way Hip Hop Should Be."
