Treva And The TroubleMakers / Press

“The beautiful and superbly talented Mrs Treva Hufft Lund If you don't take at least 2 hours of your life to listen to this woman's music, you're robbing yourself! She plays a violin that will make your heart shed tears of joy.Watch for her feature in our WOMEN WHO ROCK issue of Band Fans dot Party in SEPTEMBER!”

“Treva, new Troublemakers: More rock, wailing violin (Part5) With the shift to rock, Hufft Lund said she has noticed more lively responses from audiences. At the same time, the effects she uses are more appropriate for classic rock than for blues, she said. “The cool thing with the effects now, with this music, is that it means something. With the blues stuff we were doing, it was just an add-on,” she said. The transition was difficult but worthwhile, Lund said. “It’s been a little rocky, going through it, but it has culminated in the group that we’ve got now. We’re all excited about where this will go,” Lund said. “It’s kinda cool because it’s just two families in the band now.” Ed Peaco writes about locally grown Ozarks music for the News-Leader. “Treva, new Troublemakers: More rock, wailing violin (Part4) Seth Randolph studied jazz at University of Central Missouri, played in progressive metal bands and traveled widely to perform. “I found myself once in Okinawa playing in an Irish pub with a Japanese blues band,” he said. His approach to performing: “Showmanship, modesty, just being a solid, professional musician.” His sound on drums: “Intricate, focused and solid. Knowing where to put what.””

“Treva, new Troublemakers: More rock, wailing violin (Part3) Seth Randolph grew up as a drummer under the wing of Mahan, Hillcats leader and drummer. He spoke of Mahan as if the bandleader were a fun-loving uncle. Mahan often took breaks during a set and called for Seth Randolph to take over. “He’d even switch in the middle of a song. He’d hand me a stick and he’d scoot over,” he said. When Mahan died in 2009, Seth Randolph assumed the drummer’s stool in the band. As much as he learned about music from Mahan, Seth Randolph said he learned even more from his father. Likewise, Don Randolph said his father was crucial to his music education.”

“Treva, new Troublemakers: More rock, wailing violin (Part2) Next would be the new faces onstage, which guitarist Ric Lund, Hufft Lund’s husband, said are contributing to greater cohesion in the band. Openings in the fall led to drummer Seth Randolph joining in October and his father, Don Randolph, joining on bass in November. They have been playing together since the younger Randolph was 10, and both have served in Howie and the Hillcats, Benny Mahan’s adventure in rock, funk and other interests. “We not only got a new drummer, we got a rhythm section that had been playing together for 20 years,” Lund said. The father has been working in local music since the 1970s, when he formed Homegrown, a rock-infused bluegrass band. He has been playing in the Mullets since the ’80s and later in the Hillcats. His older son, Josh, plays bass in The Lowdown Fancy.”

“Treva, new Troublemakers: More rock, wailing violin (Part1) For Treva and the Troublemakers, 2014 was a year of transition that led the band to a new musical emphasis, a new rhythm section and, by the end of the year, a new found enthusiasm for making music. If you can recover from New Year’s Eve and get to Cartoons by 6:30 p.m. Saturday, you can hear what they’re so pleased about. The immediate impression likely will be the tunes: the cover band has shifted from blues to hard-driving classic rock such as Led Zeppelin, Steppenwolf and Joan Jett. In keeping with the material, TrevaHufft Lund often morphs her sound on electric violin into the distorted wail of late ’60s guitar. Continued – see Part 2”

“A few years ago, countrified musician Treva Hufft Lund joined the small club of blues fiddlers, and soon after her conversion, a band sprung up around her signature sound. Treva and the Troublemakers play plenty of blues, driven by a heavy beat and Hufft Lund’s melodic lines, but the band also ranges into country and rock. The Troublemakers are her husband Ric Lund, whose guitar playing veered bluesward after he heard Stevie Ray Vaughan; drummer Hyda-James Hill, steeped in jazz and a fan of Pat Metheny; and versatile bass player Bill Penninger, a newcomer to the band. They’ll perform at 6 p.m. Nov. 1 at Lindbergs. Although they play mostly covers, their versions are distinctive: The violin immediately signals something different, the arrangements are tweaked, and Hufft Lund takes a fresh slant on vocals. She also takes chances, such as using guitar effects on her violin. A wah pedal brings psychedelic smears to “Black Cat Bone."....(more) click link for entire article”
