Spit Records are delighted to announce the re-release of the critically acclaimed and highly controversial single “Don’t Swim On The East Coast/ “I Wanna Conform” by Ireland’s Seminal Punk Band The Sussed.
Who would ever have thought that a song written by mid teen teenagers some 38 years ago about the dangers of the nuclear powerstation Windscale would remain topical in 2017. Windscale may have been renamed Sellafield but it continues to court controversy as to it’s future existence.
The Single will be released in 7” vinly only and the first 300 hand numbered copies in pink vinyl. The original single is expanded to include 2 of the much requested bonus tracks, “I’ve Got Rabies” and “Drowning in Bed”. In line with the Sussed never agreeing to follow the norm the single will not be available for commercial digital downloading.

Hailing from the suburbs of Churchtown . Dublin 14 The Sussed were formed in 1978 when singer Rory Stokes was just 13, the average age of the band was a mere 16 when they all took a day off school and headed up to Slane Studios to record the single.
In the early days The Sussed supported a young up and coming Dublin band called U2 on numerous occasions and later toured throughout Ireland.
With “Don’t Swim On The East Coast” gathering momentum with regular radio airplay The Sussed was offered a slot on the popular late night chat show The Late Late Show. However this appearance was cancelled at the eleventh hour when someone at the station uncovered the controversial lyrics denouncing the dangers of the nuclear power station Windscale leaking radioactive material into the Irish Sea.
The Sussed did however have some good friends at RTE, namely Dave Fanning and Larry Gogan, who made the song single of the week on his former radio show. It was also played extensively on the late John Peel show on BBC Radio 1.
The Sussed comprised of Rory Stokes, Paul Mooney, John McGrath and “The Masked Bassman” until the arrival of Liam Fox on permanent bass duties. The Masked Bassman can be seen on the Video for “Don’t Swim On The East Coast” on Spit Records YouTube Channel - Click Below
