TRP (The Reese Project) is presenting a concert at 5 pm on Saturday, May 9th, 2015 at the West Shore Baptist Church. The Wednesday Club of Harrisburg is sponsoring this event. A Free-will offering will be taken. The church is located at 2025 Market St, Camp Hill, PA. The concert will open with JT Mullin performing Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. The mainstay of the concert is the Dark Moon Octet by Tom Reese. Players include Ashley McFalls, vocal; Ryan Kauffman, flute; Stephanie McCullough, violin; Christy Kauffman, viola; Laurie Haines Reese, cello; Tom Reese, alto flute; Kirk Reese, piano; John Gingrich, bass; & Chris Loser, drums. The Dark Moon Octet features a classical flute quartet (flute, violin, viola & cello) juxtaposed with a jazz quartet (alto flute, piano, bass & drums). The two groups seem to have a conversation -- an idea is presented by the flute quartet, and a response offered by the jazz quartet. The piece has 15 sections, played without pause. “…the music is at times introspective and at times guided by a “cool” swing – invoking the spirits of Ravel, Debussy, and the Gil Evans/Miles Davis era. Reese’s ability to maintain the unique identity of each ensemble while showcasing his artistic integrity serves as a testament to his compositional prowess.” --Mark Hunsberger
