“Safeway Waterfront Blues Fest got on its feet and tapped its toes for popular hometown zydeco-blues band, New Iberians. A melange of Louisiana zydeco, Memphis soul, and Chicago blues, with hints of bluegrass and rockabilly, all blended with a pinch of Northwest indie rock ‘n’ roll; New Iberians offered up a mix of original tunes and traditional Zydeco. One of Portland’s most popular dance bands started off in the afternoon sun playing to a sparse crowd, but their infectious brand of music soon attracted large numbers of fans. Hot as the day, not to mention the red pepper hot sauce that the Louisiana town the band takes its name from; the dance-floor darlings had the growing crowd on its feet and cutting a rug on the expansive tiled floor thoughtfully laid out by the Festival. ”Stumptown Roll” and “Shake It” had fans on their feet and shaking their tail-feathers in the afternoon sunshine.”
