“Mark Dawson ... plays bass for The Grass Roots. This Orlando-based musician and local icon has been so kind as to do an interview about his brand new album, “making noise”, which will be released on Friday, January 11. Here is an exclusive look inside the making of, “making noise”. Q: How long have you been working on this project? A: I started recording the initial drum tracks for “making noise” with Drew Steinke here in Orlando, in February of 2012. I continued to add the foundation of the songs; guitars, bass, keyboards, etc., up until the Happy Together Tour began in early June. I picked the project back up when the tour ended in September and went back to work on a daily basis, day and night. And I loved doing it... see full article at: http://www.examiner.com/article/mark-dawson-will-be-making-noise-on-january-11-when-his-new-album-releases”
“Mark Dawson releasing a new solo album entitled "making noise". Ten new songs and two bonus tracks. Featuring "So Unusual" a duet with Carl Giammarese of The Buckinghams.”
“If you ever get the chance to talk with Mark Dawson, you’ll notice a couple of things right off the bat: he loves humor and will almost certainly make you laugh, no matter the subject; and he listens to you, showing a genuine interest in what you have to say. And so it was during our conversation by phone on September 12. I haven’t even met the man in person yet, and we were talking like old pals for more than an hour and a half, sharing memories of our favorite bands and concerts, talking about sports, and a lot more”
“Vocalist Mark Dawson offers another view in ‘Chapter Two’”
“Rob Grill, founding member of the Grass Roots, hand-picked his successor on lead vocals, Mark Dawson, a devoted “keeper of the flame”. Dawson is a Chicago native who has performed with the Roots for six years alongside Grill, and he plays a mean bass to boot. He’s moved into the lead vocal spot with ease and grace. Grill wanted to make sure that the songs sounded in concert the way the fans first heard them on the radio, and he got his wish. Mark and Dusty were with Rob on last year’s Happy Together Reunion Tour. This year they’ll return on the national tour with The Buckinghams, Mark Lindsey, The Association, and The Turtles, performing many of their hits to, now, a second generation of fans.”
“The Florida sun definitely has been shining down on Mark Dawson throughout the years. He has made a great impact on the local music scene and is currently the bass player/lead vocalist of The Grass Roots. This is the second summer that he has been a part of the Happy Together Tour, and he’s loving every minute of it... Playing for The Grass Roots is not Dawson’s only gig. When he’s not on tour with The Grass Roots, he also performs with American Pop 60s and the Orlando-based band, Simulcast. Mark feels fortunate that his career is still going strong. “I'm most proud of the fact that I still feel passionate about music. I live it. Playing bass is as much fun now as it was when I was a kid. I also feel blessed that I'm able to perform with some of the legendary artists of my generation. It's a daily thrill!” The Happy Together Tour is currently taking Mark and The Grass Roots all over the country. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to see this great local talent in his elemen”
“This is Mark Dawson’s second year performing on the Happy Together Tour. The Grass Roots bass player/lead vocalist enjoys being a part of the fun. He shares a little about his experiences and about the performances. “The five acts on the show, to me, are the perfect compliment to each other. The Grass Roots and The Buckinghams have worked together for years— much the same with The Turtles and The Grass Roots. We're friends from way back. Mark Lindsay is just a wonderful guy and a real crowd pleaser. You add in the great songs of The Association and the always entertaining antics of Flo and Eddie and you have a complete mixture of all things mellow to macabre.””
