Within a few weeks, they went on their first date at Buddy Holly's grave in Lubbock, TX, and within a year, they were touring together, as part of Nanci Griffith's band, and as the opening act on Nanci's two month tour of the British Isles. In a dusty little dressing room on the top floor of Dublin's Olympia theatre, they penned the songs that would become their first CD, "River of Fallen Stars". The CD was awarded the "Indie" award in 1995 for "Best Adult Contemporary CD" by the National Association of Independent Record Distributors. Eleven CDs and several side-projects later (The Strangelings, The Stringbusters, and their solo projects), they enjoy loyal followings in both the guitar camp and the singer-songwriter set. Ultimately it's their tight harmonies, their chemistry, and their unashamedly idealistic outlook that has carved them their own niche in the studio and onstage. And now Pete & Maura Kennedy celebrate their 20th anniversary with the release of three albums of all new material. The Anniversary Tour began in the UK in April and May and will pass through Shirley on 7/11. You can pick up a copy of the the duo's new album, "West," online. OR get a signed copy on the night of the show. The second release of the bunch is Maura's solo album, "Villanelle: The Songs of Maura Kennedy and B.D. Love" where Maura composed all the music to the lyrics of widely published California poet, B.D. Love. Copies of this CD will also be available at the show. We'll also be performing songs from Pete's "Heart Of Gotham" at this concert. On the CD, "West": “West” is a gem of an album; thirteen varied and beautifully-crafted songs played and sung with taste and sensitivity by two very gifted people...I haven’t heard a better album in a long time.” 5 out of 5 stars. - Allan McKay, MusicRiot.co.uk On "Villanelle...": “At fifteen songs long, there isn’t a bad, or even an average one...There’s no argument here about whether song lyrics are poetry or not because that’s how these lyrics started. Maura Kennedy has risen to an incredibly difficult technical challenge by crafting arrangements across a wide variety of styles which enhance the poetry and, as always, her lead and harmony vocals are perfect...The result is an album that’s technically flawless and packed with feeling and emotion. You can’t ask for much more than that.” - Allan McKay, Musicriot.co.uk

“Just in from one of the best gigs I have seen this year. The Kennedys were superb at The Loft tonight. Wonderful music and a great U2 cover in Wild Honey. Anyone who missed it missed a treat of a gig. Hope they come back again soon.”
