I love when I can make it to a show and this weekend I went to Bernie's to see my new favorite local band. Know what I don't love? The number of people in the audience. People don't know what they're missing yet. I don't think it was the band I think the bar must not have done much advertising I did learn, however, that people came quite a distance to see them and that's good. Despite the small numbers the band played like there were 4000 fans listening and dancing, kudos to you guys, I can imagine how difficult it is to play so hard for so few. I listen to the people coming in for the first time; they're often skeptical but before the first song ends they're usually saying OMG they sound just like the doors! Well duh isn't that the idea. Come on people come out and meet this hugely talented group of men and go back in time...

I saw this band last night. the lead singer wore leather pants ala jim morrison and resembed him somewhat but the keyboard guy fit the fit the description more closely but leather sure sounded like jm and seemed to share his angst. They are a strange mix, i'd be there ages are 40's to 20's but what they share is a lot of talent. they were very good they sounded just like the doors. every one of them did their parts flawlessly, guitars, drums, keyboard and vocals. The crowd was also a strange mix. there were kids there who probably think jim morrison was married to meg ryan because of the movie and probably heard the doors when their parents played it. then there were the people who experienced it; a friendly bunch and there was talk of driving cross country in a chevy van playing the door exclusively and many mentions of wishing they could smoke pot but now they're accountants and union bosses now so they can't. i will dance more when they play somewhere that has a bigger dance floor because, um, can you say driving beat? very very very good show. if people hasn't seen them yet they should go.

I didn’t know what I was getting into last night, going to this band’s first show at the Dockside. I’ve heard the lead guitarist play in other bands and knew he was a phenomenal musician, I love the Doors, and I could have dinner at the bar overlooking the water, so how could the night go wrong? The band has a great look; the lead singer dressed in leather pants and he looks somewhat like Jim Morrison but the kid on the keyboards looks like the Man Himself, resurrected and in a different spot, so cool we have two Jim Morrisons and the aforementioned talent of the lead guitar. This might be fun. When they started to play I was amazed at the sound. The Doors are not an easy band to reproduce but they nailed it. You could tell the audience loved them from the get-go; people were swaying where they stood, and as the show went on they really started to move, but when they played Whiskey Bar the crowd, as The Who would say, went wild, and the night took on a whole other mood. Boozoo Chavez in Portland, ME, 1998. I was very sick that night but went for the love of zydeco and the music kept dragging me onto the dance floor. I would come back to my seat and beg my friend to not let me go back out there but nobody could stop me. I haven’t felt that compelled to dance since that night but last night I couldn’t not move to the music. I’m healthier now but I’m older and smarter so after the first two sets I found a seat on the other side of the room. Just when I thought there were no more surprises I found that the sound on that side was even better and the view of the band was spectacular. I wanted to watch the raw talent in front of me but kept getting lost in the music and closing my eyes. Even sitting down I chair danced so hard that my abs are still sore this morning. I couldn’t help it. This band gave me goose bumps for like, 4 hours straight. It was like sitting in the 1960’s listening to the real thing right there in front of me. At the end of the night the crowd was begging them to do the first set again. No single-song encore for this band, the crowd wanted the entire first set! We got another 3 songs, and I got to hear that Whiskey Bar a second time. I was certain somebody would have posted this on YouTube and positive they would be viral by midnight but, alas, I couldn’t find it when I came home and searched, but when they do get a little more exposure this band is going to be very popular, mark my words. The audiences are going to grow and soon I won’t be able to see them for the price of a burger and coke. Amazing. This ended up being a memorable evening and I can’t wait to see them again.
