Bon Vivant savants. Singers of blood harmony. Writers of song and producers of music. The Holland Brothers are from the Piedmont region of NC. They play a style of music rooted in multiple genres of blues, country blues, folk and old time country. Similar to the Piedmont songsters of old, the Holland Brothers, who achieved major label fame in the 1990’s with their Chapel Hill band Jennyanykind (Elektra), play a variety of styles and songs. A mandolin and 12-string guitar provide a churning rhythmic base for jazz and blues runs on a cross-harp and harmonized vocals.
The Holland’s, along with playing live, do a lot of writing and producing roots music for film and TV. They have recorded music for and appeared in HBO’s Righteous Gemstones in 2019, 2021,2023 and 2024. They also appeared in Apple TV’s show Dickinson in 2021, having recorded a song for that show as well. Their music has also been used in Desert Saints (2002) starring Kiefer Sutherland, The World Made Straight (2015), and The Legacy of the Whitetail Deer Hunter (2018). They are currently working with Rough House Productions on a vinyl box set of songs from their entire music history. A new self-released record, “Bon Vivant Savants”, is due to be released by all streaming platforms on September 30, 2025.
Heavily influenced by legends like Charley Patton, Charlie Pool, Miles Davis, Woody Guthrie and other artists from the American music landscape, they draw inspiration from everywhere and everything. The Holland Brothers, who have appeared in No Depression, North Carolina’s Our State magazine, Billboard, and the NY Times, continue to garner praise and gain new fans daily.
