Q: Hi Deb/Glen, I would like to know where/who you get your inspiration from when writing a song/album? Thanks,Kerri

A: Hi, Kerri! Thanks for the question. Here are our respective answers: Glen: I think the main initial inspiration for me is the musical idea itself. Generally, when I get an idea for a song it suggests a word or phrase and the rest of the lyric follows. The "suggestion" seems to be related both to the rhythmic cadence of the melodic idea as well as the mood of the music. At that point, any and all of my knowledge, experiences and musical influences filter into the mix. Occasionally I will have a word, phrase, visual image or idea in mind that will spark a musical idea. Then it goes right back to what I said above. Deborah: For me, inspiration comes in different ways and from different sources. Like with Glen, that is sometimes a visual image, but I probably write more from and about personal experiences than Glen does. I also sometimes start with a lyric, which Glen rarely does. Sometimes I have been awakened at night with a melody running through my head. Sometimes some lyrics accompany the music, or a dream will suggest a lyric idea.
