“The title track is a thoughtful, introspective elegy to the Ramones, and even though Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee, and Tommy lend a distinct influence to the proceedings this is a much sweeter proposition than one would expect after the armies of one dimensional pop punk bands that have buzzsawed their way to obscurity in the wake of the Brooklyn bruddahs. In the Breakdowns I hear a lot of late '70s power pop, specifically the Plimsouls, as well as occasional girl group harmonies and shards of modern punk, all mated to that timeless Ramones sense of bubblegum melody, and the end result is an album of surprising depth and staying power. In some alternate universe - a better universe, where the Ramones, the Dolls, and the Replacements are all living in luxury and Radiohead never happened - the Breakdowns are about to have thirteen awesome singles hit the top of the charts. ”
“The Breakdowns “The Kids Don’t Wanna Bop Any More” From the UK…. Fans of The Ramones will enjoy this one. The band describes themselves as ‘bubblegum garage rock’ and I have to agree that these tracks are freakin’ sweet. Lead singer Joe has a rough vocal, but it drips with authenticity and energy. Catchy tracks that bring back the “Rock N Roll High School” with great driving beats and buzzsaw riffs with a touch of organ are featured on “Summertime Twist”. Listen to the easy rock of “Hey Veronica” or the Kiss meets Cheap Trick tune “Samantha Jones”. Any way you slice this album, you get awesome rock and roll done right.”
"This holds more up-beat energy than a thousand Strokes records! It delivers an intense punch of pioneering power-pop sound that's just fabulous to listen to. These guys certainly deserve to be mentioned among any records that are all the rage with the new 'garage/rock'n'roll' crowd. The songs are great, resulting in a raw explosion of sound that virtually defines what late 70's power pop was all about. The whole record is pure ear-candy from start to finish that'll have little problem luring you in with its insidiously catchy hook and playful lyricism. By no means restricted to any genre 'cept perhaps 'rock and roll', this is pretty listening that shakes, soothes and delivers. Buy this or be square forever!"
“You say you like classic late ’70s power pop? If so, you won’t want to miss this release, which recalls the Plimsouls (especially vocally) and other bands of the period, such as the Tremblers. There’s also a serious Ramones influence going on, especially on tunes such as “Summertime Twist,” which sounds nearly identical to the Ramones’ “Touring.” Still, it’s mighty fab stuff.”
“ File under: The best stuff ever. New The Breakdowns album The Kids Don’t Wanna Bop Anymore is most likely friggin’ amazing. I’m excited after checking out just the 30 sec samples and a couple of full songs. I’m gonna order the album tomorrow. This UK band plays my kind of music. Just great power pop/garage/rock’n'roll action going on. Hey Veronica sounds like The Shoes to me and that’s hardly a bad thing. The Ramones tribute The Kids Don’t Wanna Bop Anymore works equally well. Magnificent! ”
“ Have a look at the classic album covers featured on the sleeve art of this new release from a bunch of power pop-afflicted Midlanders and tell us that you're not interested in what they have to say via the gift of rock 'n' roll!! Dom Daley finds out why 'The Kids Don't Wanna Bop Any More' with The Breakdowns...... ”
“Stealing from The Beatles and the Ramones with equally gleeful abandon England's The Breakdowns are poised for a break-through.”
“The Breakdowns – meet: Joe, Matt, Adam & Owen Breakdown from downtown Nottingham, but their hearts and minds reach right across the Atlantic to the classic New York of the Dolls, the Ramones and any other kind of trashy pop bubblegum references you can think of, but most of all they put me in mind of Boston's own sublime Real Kids. These guys yearn to be two dimensional in a 3D world – hooray for cartoon pop!”
