Cross two famous guys named Brooks - Garth and Mel - and you get Austin folksinger Steve Brooks. His songs have been recorded by Americana stars like Slaid Cleaves ("One Good Year" and "Everette"), Albert & Gage, Emily Kaitz and Danny Santos, as well as the actor Russell Crowe. Back home in Austin, he's known for writing a song-a-week for Jim Hightower’s national radio show and being six-time winner of the O.Henry Pun-Off. He's currently climbing folk radio charts with "Chasing Grace," his first studio album in a decade, produced by Chris Gage. Equally gifted at high poetry and low comedy, writes Stave Magazine, “He is simply the most clever man you'll hear with a guitar.”
