Artist Bio STEP UP! S.F.H.C. is... JOE HEADSTOMP- VOCALS* SKOTTIE UP!- ELECTRIC GUITAR* NEGATIVE NANCY- BASS GUITAR* CHRIS REKER- DRUMS Formed in late 2008 STEP UP! is a welcomed return to the original sounds of old school New York Hardcore. Formed and founded by native New Yorker vocalist Joe HeadStomp who wanted to bring the sounds of the true roots of hardcore to a new generation. Joe brings passion and energy to the words he not only sings but lives, whether its his pulse pounding verses or heartfelt traditional sing alongs Joe has a vocal style that everyone should hear. After relocating to Oakland, Ca. The band really started to take shape when Joe collaborated with fellow New York native guitarist Scotty Up! formerly of the NJ hardcore band SUBURBAN KAOS and an early and original member of Oakland, CA hardcore band POWERHOUSE OBHC. The two immediately became friends and found common ground in their NYHC roots and love of the traditional hardcore sound. Scott's energetic playing style will have fans moshing till they bleed. Once Joe and Scott started to get the songs together, Joe called long time friend and former bandmate Toast(G-STRING STRANGLERS) to come and lay down some bass lines. Toast the youngster of the group and native of the Bay Area, Ca brings anger and enthusiasm with his blistering bass lines and earth shattering back up vocals. Trials and tribulations plagued the forming band in the never easy task of finding the right drummer for the sound they were trying to create. Finally they found the right chemistry with drummer Napalm Nate who has added the energy and power needed to make the true hardcore sound. After a series of Bay Area shows which included supporting spots for hardcore legends Agnostic Front as well as Pro-Pain , Sworn Enemy, Brick By Brick (N.Y.), Hoods, Death By Stereo & Lionheart among others Step Up! was forced to take a break as Toast moved out of state to further his education and Joe Headstomp had just started a family ,the band took a hiatus .Fast Forward to 2020 as the world was entering the Corona Virus pandemic Scotty Up! contacted Joe suggesting they reform and so with the new additions to the group with Koda on Bass and Chris Reker on Drums Step Up! was back and harder and faster than before. After a few months after each Step Up! practices Koda picked up his guitar and started local punk band Blunt Force Karma with Chris on drums. Koda eventually left to focus on BFK and in comes Taco Dave on bass . Dave brought a raw talent to the group with his seamless bass lines but unfortunately was only able to do a handful of shows before leaving the band for personal reasons but with his departure brought us Negative Nancy. A fan of the band and always front and center during live performances she was dedicated and committed to learning the songs quicky and in turn has established this current lineup as the best one to date. With her bass playing skills as a dominant force of our rhythm section it meshes perfectly with Chris's drumming as he drives it all home with his clockwork precision and hard hitting beats and together in turn creating the tightest and fastest version of Step Up! to date. The band has been continuously tightening up their sound in their Walnut Creek, Ca. practice space, playing shows around the Bay Area, writing some new material and are looking to release their first full length effort sometime in the near future. Thanks to the intensity and enthusiasm of their old school sound and a solid support network of other hardcore bands STEP UP! is back on their mission to becoming a musical force to be reckoned with.STEP UP!
