Social Spit

Formed in the Late 70's SOCIAL SPIT Played one show with Guitarist Dave Fleminger, Singer Bruce "SKABS" Atwell, Drummer Brian Watkins, Bassist Bosco and guitar player “Squirrel” from “5051” at The Blind Center in San Diego. Jonny Vee joined Social Spit after meeting Bruce at a Black Flag show in the fall of 1980. After the breakup of “Violation Five”, bassist Russ Weber offered his services and practice room to Jonny and Bruce the surviving members of Social Spit. In December 1980, the first new SS show at the Lions Club, opening for Social Distortion and The Adolescents. Bruce quit Social Spit in February 1981 and was replaced by cliff Cunningham and played through summer of 1981. Jonny moved to San Francisco and joined various bands including Umbrella Defense, Juvinil Justice, and Dangerous Visions and in off times ran sound for SF Goth Originals “Fade to Black” and formed a small Goth band called “Vile under Vile” which was a big hit with the death Rock scene as it was called back then. In November 1985, Jonny moved back to san Diego. Cliff and Jonny reformed Spit in ‘86 with Paul "Skumdawg” Valentine and Sean "Diatribe" Coley -In 1987 Mike Von-Geitzen joined, and quit in 1988. Drummer Javier Vega and Bassist Dave "Psycho" Nestor joined and the "Golden Age" of Social Spit began! S.S. opened for GBH, UK Subs. Even The Dickies. In 1993, Social Spit played for a year with drummer Kriss Roth and bassist we remember only as “Rudy”. Jonny recorded “Race ya to Hell", "Fiends like YOU" and "Bonzo's Blood!" w/Javier and Dave in 1997. Cliff came out of hiding and SS played two shows at San Diego’s "Brick by Brick" club. In 2005, Cliff and Jonny were joined by drummer Dan “Skum” Fontana and bass player Ugly Lenny of Inciting Riots and played for another year. And that brings us up current to 2010 - First Jimi Flynn and then Javier Vega joined as Drummers - THIRTY YEARS of SOCIAL SPIT!! And now ON to 2011!
