About the Artist

Born in Crawley and raised among the rolling hills and storm-lashed coast of North Devon, Jim Jones — aka Small Town Jones — is an indie-folk songwriter with Americana in his bones and storytelling at his heart.

There are echoes of the acoustic grit of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska, the rustic warmth of The Band and the lyrical wanderings of Bob Dylan, but Jones’ songs are rooted firmly in his own landscape — small towns, quiet roads, love, loss, human struggle and the stubborn hope that somehow survives it all.

Across a career spanning several acclaimed albums, Small Town Jones has quietly built a reputation as one of those rare songwriters whose music feels lived rather than manufactured. His songs are intimate and unguarded, carried by finger-picked guitars, harmonica and a weathered, soulful voice that sounds as though every line has had to earn its place.

His latest album, Kintsugi, takes its name from the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold — embracing the cracks rather than disguising them. It is an idea that runs through Jones’ songwriting: that damage, loss and imperfection don’t necessarily diminish us, and that sometimes there can be enormous beauty in the things that have been broken and put back together.

The album received four stars from MOJO, with Andy Fyfe observing that “there can be enormous beauty in broken things, and Kintsugi is a perfect example of that philosophy.” BBC Radio Ulster’s Ralph McLean described Jones’ work as having “all the ingredients for a classic slice of UK Americana,” while Dermot O’Leary has called his music “annoyingly good… powerful stuff, absolutely beautiful” on BBC Radio 2.

Whether performing completely solo, as a duo or trio, or backed by his full band, the heart of Small Town Jones remains the same: songs, stories and connection. There is little distance between performer and audience. At his best, a crowded room can somehow feel like a one-to-one conversation.

Because for Jones, that connection is still the whole point.
