Green Jelly
OVER ONE MILLION SOLD!
27 YEARS AND 238 BAND MEMBERS LATER GREEN JELLO STILL SUCKS....
Green Jellÿ (pronounced "green jello") was formed in 1981 in Kenmore, NY by founding member Bill Manspeaker. Originally named Green Jellö, the band changed its name due to legal pressure from the owners of the Jell-O trademark, Kraft Foods, who claimed that it was an infringement of their trademark. Throughout the early 80’s, Green Jellÿ performed throughout NY, opening for bands like The Ramones and New York Dolls. Their reputation for over-the-top live performances and food-hurling audiences got them banned from most local venues.
After finding local success, many of the members relocated to Hollywood, CA where they quickly became a fixture of the underground scene. Green Jellÿ then struck up an instant friendship with GWAR bonding with their mutual love of costumes and onstage antics. By this time, the band consisted of usually 20 members including new characters such as "Shitman" (a giant, walking corn-filled poop monster), "Cowgod", "Rock n Roll Pumpkin", and "Satan's Ham." At one point even Danny Carey and Maynard James Keenan of Tool made the Green Jellÿ roster.
In 1992, Zoo Entertainment, a subsidiary of BMG, released Green Jellÿ’s “Cereal Killer,” an all video album including MTV hit, “The Three Little Pigs.” The following year, Zoo released an audio version of the album called, “Cereal Killer Soundtrack.” This album went gold in the US, and sold nearly 2.5 million units worldwide. The success led BMG to open Green Jellÿ studios in Hollywood, where the band recorded Grammy nominated, “333.” “333” includes “The Bear Song” from the Farrelly Brother’s film, Dumb and Dumber.
In the following years, Green Jellÿ continued to break the mold as they wrote the first ever video game soundtrack for Acclaim Entertainment video game, Spider Man & Venom: Maximum Carnage. Although they never officially broke up, band members went their separate ways until early 2008 when they reemerged for a US tour supporting a re-release of the Cereal Killer and 333 video/albums on DVD.
After performing over 125 shows last year, all of them rife with the comedic and animated goodness that made Green Jellÿ a household name, the band is now preparing for another US tour starting in June 2009 to support their newest record “Musick To Insult Your Intelligence By” on Los Angeles based Rotten Records. This tour which will be bigger, better and fatter than ever promises to be more along the lines of a traveling Mardi Gras parade; with enough costumes and enough foodstuff to make Anthony Bourdain’s mouth water.
On signing the band, one member of the Rotten Records management team said “Well, at least we don’t have to worry about these guys going cold or hungry on the road—they travel with plenty of costumes and food for their live shows…” This is a match made in a supermarket checkout line considering that some of the Rotten Records staff have been fans of the band for many years. Rotten Records President Ron Peterson said “We couldn’t be happier. This is one of the hardest working bands in the business. We are confident in their professionalism…”
The Fabulous Miss Wendy
Blasting straight out of Hollywood, California, the trio that is The Fabulous Miss Wendy is catching fire faster than shooting star. The punk influenced rock band is currently on The Parental Advisory Tour with Nashville Pussy and Green Jelly; opening up for the long standing groups across the country on more than 50 dates. From Los Angeles to New York City, people are rapidly learning about and enjoying the incredibly talented Miss Wendy.
After developing a loyal following in the Los Angeles area, they were given a last minute opportunity to hop on this lengthy U.S. tour, playing crowded clubs holding up to 2000 people. Wendy isn’t an average, run-of-the-mill rhythm guitar player though, as she is a meticulous, passionate lead guitarist, shredding on her custom Les Pauls while fronting the band at the same time. As quickly as unsuspecting fans slink over to the bar or slip outside for a smoke, they are rushing right back in once the music explodes, shocked to see such a young, attractive girl raging on her guitar.
The reception is becoming so intense, Wendy’s manager, Tom Zutuat, flew out to assist on the tour and hire security because of the excited crowds mobbing her after performances. CDs and merchandise are beginning to fly off the shelves after her jaw dropping shows, which include a guest role each night with Green Jelly, showcasing her lead guitar prowess and soloing skills.
“She’s very charismatic on stage,” said Zutuat, “[with a] larger than life comic book character quality,” that is drawing people in like a moth to a flame. Picking up speed like a steam locomotive, Wendy’s talent is evoking comparisons to legendary female guitar players such as Lita Ford and Ruyter Suys.
“Please mix us like a punk metal band,” said Wendy while detailing the band’s persistent sound requests due to many people expecting a lighthearted, poppy, girl band. No one is quite ready for the loud, extreme style The Fabulous Miss Wendy brings to the table, including most sound technicians at the venues on The Parental Advisory Tour, which continues until May 30th.
With over 12 years experience, Wendy’s playing is so heavy handed and intense, she has to use special Thomastik-Infeld strings to avoid breaking them during each song. Each guitar pick is short lived as well, lasting just one song’s worth of harmonic screeching, string bending guitar work. Backed up by Brian Beckman on bass and Chelsea Bangs on drums, The Fabulous Miss Wendy is on her way to becoming a must see live act. The self-titled album is available now, with tour dates, videos and free songs available on their MySpace page to ensure people aren’t left in the dust by this rock phenomenon.

Flameing Daeth Fearies
Seven long, arduous years ago, the Flameing Daeth Fearies started out as most punk bands do, a bunch of stoned losers with nothing much else to do but play really bad music filled with obscenities, very loudly, while facing a building full of excruciatingly uptight people of high moral value. As time wore on, members changed and those that remained miraculously developed talent, some believe by the intervention of the deity worshiped by the people with high moral value while others believe that this train of thought is just plain silly.
Songs were written, the buzz grew, and to everyone's surprise, the Fearies found themselves no longer playing at crummy house parties and instead being booked at some of the best venues in their area: The Rev Room, Juanita's, and The Village. Some older rockers blamed this on the state of the music industry, even older rockers claimed that there has never been any accounting for taste since Woodstock, and one person blamed Ace of Base for no apparent reason.
Having built a reputation for a decadent stage show made on a thrift store budget, they leave venues and audiences asking what will they do next and why. While keeping true to the dick and fart jokes that started everything, the lyrics are full of obscure nerdy references and sprinkled with pop culture satire. Very rarely covering a song "straight" the band has established their own sound between their fun originals and short bus parodies. Their show has been branded cabaret punk: equal parts punk, rock, comedy, and funk.
The boys are currently working on their first studio recorded album, "Browntown: The Musical", which is highly anticipated by at least three people and their mothers.
The FDF has shared the stage with nationally recognized acts, such as MTV's Muck Sticky, Dirt Nasty, ICP, Green Jelly, and Trainwreck along with hosting some of their own very “special” holiday extravaganzas: A Very Feary X-Mas and A Very Feary VD (Valentine's Day). With a catchy groove, zany lyrics, and an ever changing stage show, the FDF keeps fans coming back for more!
