THEO CZUK:
THE FERAL JAZZ CAT
A jazz NOVEL LAUNCH and jazz CD RELEASE event.
Award winning novelist and critically acclaimed songwriter Theo Czuk's latest literary effort, The BLACK BOTTOM: The Measure Of Man, is a novel steeped in the origin of jazz. The where, the when and the why-for that jazz became jazz.
Theo wrote this latest novel symbiotically with his recent CD release, The BLACK BOTTOM: Cultivating Jazz; The Full Measure.
Between these two artistic releases, the novel and the CD, Theo explores the full breath of whence jazz germinated to where it has ventured since its inception.
An extremely unique artistic undertaking, the symbiosis between these two distinct artistic expressions, literature and songwriting, presents a full reckoning of jazz history.
With aural illustrations Theo's Quartet will explore songwriting composition in general and jazz songwriting in particular. Discover the working parts of the song and the tools at the songwriter's disposal as he/she crafts a song.
Theo will discuss and detail a variety of jazz writing styles including swing, fusion, beat jazz, bossa nova, blues and, of course, the classic AABA song structure. Theo's ensemble will perform examples of these song structures as he flushes out jazz in its myriad of manifestations.
For the interested novice, this presentation/performance will be a great introduction to what to listen for in jazz.
For the seasoned professional, this is a great review of where jazz took root to where it presently dots the contemporary musical landscape. These releases, the novel and the CD, will connect the dots.
This will be a unique presentation from an artist that has garnered acclaim as a novelist, a songwriter and a poet.
