The Williams Brothers Band Kicks-off Music @ Jeff Park Summer Concert Series
Western Colorado's favorite jam band performs FREE concert July 24
by Nicole DeJarnatt
Jefferson Park United Neighbors’ fifth annual Music @ Jeff Park Summer Concert Series kicks-off this month with a FREE performance by The Williams Brothers Band (TWBB) on Sunday, July 24 from 5-8 p.m. in the grassy bowls of Jefferson Park (22nd Ave. & Decatur St.).
Getting its start in Northern California, TWBB moved to Grand Junction, Colorado in 2000, and quickly established itself as Western Colorado’s favorite “jam band.” Led by founding members James "Papa Bear" and Phillip "Uncle Phil" Williams, the brotherly ensemble describes its music as a combination of “blues, rock and outlaw country with a dash of East Bay funk and high desert Americana.”
Crossing musical genres with ease and proficiency, TWBB performs at the West Slope’s top venues and festivals —including this year’s 25th Anniversary Country Jam, which featured award-winning musicians like Brad Paisley, Joe Nichols, Easton Corbin and Neal McCoy.
The musical genes run deep in the Williams family and second generation “Legacy Members” Chloe and Kiya Williams—James’ talented young daughters—can often be seen performing alongside their family. Additional band members include Jesse Johnson (lead guitar), Seth Strickland (bass) and Jason Dunn (drums).
Presented by JPUN and 2785 Speer, the Music @ Jeff Park Summer Concert Series takes place the fourth Sundays of the month in July and August.
“JPUN is proud to partner with long-time co-sponsor 2785 Speer, and greatly appreciates their continued support of our Music @ Jeff Park Summer Concert Series,” said JPUN President Michael Guiietz. “We are thrilled to bring these free summer neighborhood concerts to the residents and neighbors of Northwest Denver for the fifth straight year.”
According to Guiietz, “Music @ Jeff Park is just one way that JPUN stands behind our commitment to build a strong and vibrant neighborhood, foster community engagement initiatives, and improve the quality of life for residents and businesses in Jefferson Park.”
A second concert featuring funk/rock/country and dance band Play’n Dirty, will take place on Sunday, August 28 from 5-8 p.m.
Concertgoers can pack a picnic or grab a bite from food trucks and other local vendors in attendance, including Sarto’s Social Italian Eatery, Sexy Pizza and Little Man Ice Cream.
