Born in the idyllic alcoves of Santa Barbara (affectionately known as Goleta the Goodland), Sarah Renick entered this world bursting with musical and literary promise. Her dual passions for musical performance and written expression inspired her to double-major at the University of California, Irvine, where she earned two bachelor’s degrees (one in literary journalism and one in dramatic arts).
She began her professional music career as soon as she graduated from college in 2008, singing back-up vocals for Kim Manning (George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic) and John Norwood Fisher (Fishbone). She also played keyboards for The Pointer Sisters alongside drummer Steve Ferrone (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) and soon after began performing her own material as a solo artist.
In the winter of 2008, Sarah’s musical endeavors led her to a chance meeting with world-renowned fashion icon Ola Hudson, mother of Saul “Slash” Hudson (Guns N’ Roses). The woman that designed epic costumes for artists like John Lennon, David Bowie, and Ringo Starr took an interest in Sarah, a budding artist and writer that knew virtually nothing about the “real world” of music and publishing. Ola commissioned Sarah to write her autobiography, which entailed weeks of interviews, research, and an inside look at a humble star that held first-hand accounts of pop-culture history.
Sarah and Ola’s efforts and friendship developed into the first draft of The Ola Hudson Story: Rock ‘n’ Roll Mom, but their work was cut short on June 5, 2009. Ola Hudson lost her battle with lung cancer, taking with her a treasure trove of experiences that reflected a life dripping with love and passion. Sarah’s precious time with the late Ola Hudson inspired her to build her life around composing and performing music because, as Ola would often say quoting her favorite John Lennon lyric, “Life is what happens to you while you are busy making other plans.” There is no time like the present to live life to the fullest, so why wait?
Sarah continues to build her creative vision to share her music and further other talented artists in many capacities: vocal coach, singer-songwriter, and writer/PR consultant. She has covered almost every facet of the musical spectrum and looks forward to what the future will bring.
