Born in Buffalo, N.Y. Russ moved to LA at age 3. "LA is a beach town," Russ proclaims. Early memories for him are survival, mainly by trying to cope/deal with his fathers deep mental illness. "LA was the education place for me." Russ started out as an aspiring professional student, "I ended up slithering through every bar and gutter in the LA night." he says. By his own accounts, "I battled alcoholism for fifteen years till I surrendered and got sober. I woke up sober in Denver and realized I had studied voice with a world class, semi-retired opera singer for years in LA." Seeing various vocal competitions, got Russ back singing again and auditioned for, The Voice and The X Factor. "They're not about the quality of the voice, they're about youth, image. They're the K-Mart of vocal music." None of this has slowed Russ down. He still sings every day. "I met my Angel Babe at a Christmas dance. I knew right away I'd found her. I'd been praying to find her for two years." Russ is anxiously engaged in seeking every venue possible for his music. Open mic's and karaoke are what he can get at the moment and he takes them. He is also working on making whatever of his voluminous poetry writings into music. "I found my Angel and live in bliss with her in beautiful Colorado. My kids are healthy and happy as are my grandkids. I worried so for my youngest son and prayed like a M/F'r for him. One day I heard The Lord speak to me of my son. I heard Him say, 'I got him.' I cried in thanks to God for a week. Turns out The Lord was right, my youngest is doing fine." Russ has settled into the final run of his life. "I've got what time I have left to care for my family in opulence, write more novels, sing, write songs, learn my instrument 'piano,' (some guitar), nurture my marriage, get my novel made into a movie, write more poetry, love my children (truly love them) and take my miracle of mental, physical and spiritual health and awakening on a mission to the world, a mission of experience, strength and hope. The Lord gave me my life back. He gave me mercy when I deserved justice, I'll be forever grateful and work like a mule to take my vocal talent to the world, and at the same time proclaiming that you can wake up, you can get sober, you can live happy and do what you love for a living.".
