Rudy Colombini Music Bio Rudy Colombini was born and raised in North Beach, the home to the Italian population in the rich, cultural mix that is San Francisco. This artistic center, which has spawned the poetry, novels, and jazz of the Beat Generation, has been the breeding ground for bands in the vanguard of all styles of music over the decades. San Francisco's mid-twentieth century "diversity,' for Rudy has also included the new alternative influence stemming from the Filmore-Hunter's Point African-American communities, Chinatown's Asian-American, Mission Street's Chicano, and Tenderloin/Polk Street and later Castro District's LGBTQIA political-cultural movements that simultaneously helped give rise to and provided contrapuntal critique of (a) the Beat [1955-1962] (b) Folk/ "SF Sound" rock [1963-1965] (c) Psychedelic -Hip- pie/Acid Rock [1966-1968] (d) Back-to-Earth arts and activism [1968-1971] (e) Disco and LGBTQIA liberation [1973 - 1979], and (f) Punk/New Wave [1978-1983]. Rudy embraced his influences in his first band, The Stragglers, playing gigs at the nearby Art Institute and across town at Cesar’s Latin Palace. A chance meeting with former Beatle John Lennon inspired Rudy to get serious about songwriting. He evolved further in the 1980′s with Bay Area bands The Twist and The Divine Comedy. After pursuing and achieving a successful career in business and real estate, Rudy put himself back behind the guitar and microphone with new enthusiasm. Rudy’s solo career sparked top 40 charting success, a song in the Francis Ford Coppola movie Rumble Fish, as well as breaking the record for most downloads in a day on mp3.com. Rudy then formed the Unauthorized Rolling Stones, playing Mick Jagger in one of the West Coast’s first significant tribute bands, which continues to thrive to this day. In all, Colombini has maintained his dual roles as a singer/performer and as a songwriter, resulting in four albums and hundreds of appearances throughout the West Coast. He has opened for The Beach Boys, Joan Jett, Elton John, Chaka Chan, Journey, and more. As a singer-songwriter, the endearing, provocative Colombini engenders an inspiring, unique album with hints of Lennon, Dylan, and Jagger channeled throughout his compositions, while still retaining his own identity and originality. His songs are so accessible and familiar on first listen that the audience might think they are hearing a treasured classic from decades past.
