Romanian Folklore, Music and Dance at the Toronto Christmas Market Featuring: • Rainbow Children’s Club - Created and mentored by singer-songwriter/educator Nathalie Marga, the Rainbow Children’s Club is an ensemble of talented kids aged 5 to12 whose hand-picked musical repertoire and wonderful renditions have turned the group into a favourite entertainment choice for select events around the Greater Toronto Area. Performing on the Toronto Christmas Market stage for the first time, the Rainbow Children’s Club will sing carols and Christmas songs in English, French and Romanian. Enjoy and feel free to sing along! • Hi Trend - Founded in 2009, Hi Trend is a gorgeous dance group whose diverse and highly entertaining choreography brings together elements of traditional Romanian dance routines with a modern twist which brought the group great popularity within the Romanian-Canadian community. Hi Trend’s portfolio features various dance genres and coordinated outfits uniquely designed for each routine, highly appreciated at multicultural festivals and events in the Greater Toronto Area and beyond. Performing for the first time on the Toronto Christmas Market stage this year, Hi Trend will proudly present Hora din Moldova and Ion din Romania. • Rucsandra Maria Saulean - Singer-songwriter and recording artist Rucsandra Maria Saulean is one of the Romanian-Canadian community’s most acclaimed vocal soloists, having distinguished herself through the remarkable renditions of traditional Romanian songs and her original creations inspired by them. Born and raised in the pristine Carpathian mountains, Rucsandra has cherished and religiously preserved the cultural heritage passed on from her Transylvanian and Moldavian parents. Every song she has written carries hints of doinas (old Romanian country ballads), carols, church songs, by old folkloric verse and the Romanian nation’s greatest poets. Rucsandra Maria Saulean and her guests are proud to give the Toronto Christmas Market audience a fair taste of the quintessential Romanian music in carefully selected Christmas songs and old-time carols.

The first VIGIL FOR INTERNATIONAL PEACE (VIP - http://www.vigil4internationalpeace.org/people.html) was held on the 21st of September, 2002 to coincide with the U.N. Resolution. It has since been held in the Bandshell in New York's Central Park on the closest weekend to September 21st. This year, the Vigil is held on Saturday, Sept. 21 and will commence around 9.00 a.m., and culminate with a grand finale by 6:00pm. The celebration will continue throughout the day featuring renowned world speakers, children's choirs, as well as international performers, dancers and poets who will contribute to our program. Representatives and leaders from a variety of local, national, and international organizations will join the festivities. The VIGIL FOR INTERNATIONAL PEACE has been the vision of Susana Bastarrica and a few people with the same intent: Create an event to celebrate, transform and inspire all peoples to share a Peaceful Planet.
