Q: How has your family influenced your music?

A: Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My grandpa, is a bluegrass gospel musician, and plays the mandolin and guitar. My grandma, was a self taught pianist, and also played organ and accordion. My music, was my escape from life. My own family, didn't support me becoming a musician when it became a real choice. They were supportive when I was a kid in school, but when it came time for real life, my decision, was to remain true to my music no matter what they thought, and their decision was that I would never be anybody and that I would be poor my whole life. I know my grandma was proud of me, but she never said a word to me. I didn't find out that she liked me playing piano, because I was carrying on a family tradition, until after she was gone. My immediate family is also a source of never ending song writing material. I can't say that they have had any meaningful influence on my original music. Unlike most other musicians, whose families are their biggest supporters and influences, I found my music all by myself in spite of the lack of support from my family. Music gave me a new life, and now I have new friends and family who support and are proud of the music Dallas and I have made. I am very grateful that you can choose your friends, for they have made all the difference.
