Residuos Mentales / Press

“Although often dark and somber some of this music is really quite beautiful and the melodies absolutely gorgeous. The best time to listen to Introspection is nighttime or when you want to completely lose yourself in the concept. I suggest limited lighting to get the full effect. Although completely instrumental, Residuos Mentales presents the listener with a fantastic journey through the mind, as such the music invokes a sweeping cinematic odyssey that will not be easily forgotten. Highly recommended.”

“All in all, an enchanting CD that shows a good variation in styles and yet works as a whole.”

“The result is a very lush sound that avoids being bombastic, opting for more, well, introspective moods. The eleven tracks can be considered as a more or less continuous suite, and the overall album has a nice flow to it, building intensity and releasing it. Lovers of melody, harmony, and scope should find a lot to like here, but if you’re looking for music with teeth, you’ll be disappointed — that’s not where Residuos Mentales wants to go.”

“Although the duo included Greek music, 70's progressive rock, and cinematic influences, the ingredients became much larger, and the music took on a life of its own. While much in the vein of a dreamy soundtrack, the moments surround the listener like a misty cloud of warm rain, and cuddle the ears with fond emotions. This could easily be original music to the movie we all fantasize of our lives. Simply gorgeous, with a delicate and loving web cast over you that may make you cry at times. RECOMMENDED.”

“It is a pleasant and often beautiful affair, and you can easily lose yourself in the mesmerizing beauty of the landscapes and moods conveyed and explored. This is music that sends your mind floating with associations, rather than one that you listen to with focus and a great attention to detail.”

“While this might not be precisely the image you get when you conjure up the concept of "progressive rock," this definitely fits the bill. It's built around classical and jazz sounds to a large degree, but space rock and more traditional prog both show up here. This is an instrumental set that would often work well as movie soundtrack music. It's diverse and powerful. It's also lush and beautiful. All that said, it's suitably dark a lot of the time and sometimes even menacing and a bit unsettling”

“If you’ve lived a little, done things, been with someone, hung out with people, had some laughs, cried some tears… Then you know there may be regrets along the way too. There might be shame. Sometimes memories can haunt a real, live person. This is sensitive, graceful, contemplative music- gentle, ironically peaceful and serene (since this is indeed a tragic tale). Moods and images are evoked quietly, subtly, with use of acoustic instruments like flute, viola, xylophone, and piano.”

““Introspection“ the debut album of the project Residuos Mentales is an intriguing piece of music with in overall a mellow atmosphere. I like the combination of Neo Classical textures and elements of electronic and ambient music. The piano and the acoustic and classical guitars are playing the most important roles in this composition. When the classical piano parts are combined with cello, violin or flute it creates a wonderful Neo Classical atmosphere. You can find some wonderful melodies and fine orchestrations on this instrumental album. Just listen to my personal favorite The Thorn In Me. An album for the open minded (Prog) music lover.”

Oozing with a sweet and ethereal sensation, the music of Introspection is unreservedly agreeable to our ears, so let’s sink in our armchair and enjoy it, intermission-free. A real success where the classic melodies coexist with the modern trends, aiming solely to please us.”

"Spacious electronics, minimalistic soft touches on piano, flute, beautiful violins and classical guitar are sometimes met with sound effects, such as playing a vinyl record or radio waves. Merged together, it results in an intimate, almost classical composition filled with an engaging atmosphere."

When listening to the CD you will notice that both are fantastic musicians. It is the musical DNA of Stratos Morianos that you hear in every keyboard tone and also Alexandros Mantas knows how to elicit very tasty things from his strings.”

“If you're looking for a simple description of Residuos Mentales's Introspection then you've come to the wrong place. This is an album that refuses to be pigeonholed. It's a tranquil, chilled out, almost meditative LP that shifts and changes as the tracks melt into one another. This is a release that works best when played from start to finish in the order the tracks have been shaped. This way you can experience the journey as it was designed to be heard.”

“Stratos and Alexandros seem to draw energy and emotion from each other as they put this album together song by song...connecting the darkness lurking behind a seemingly harmless facade to the inner workings of a tortured soul..."Introspection" tells of one man's internal anguish as he deals with memories of his past, hence the dark somber overtones and canvas filled with gray to black hues...”

'A superb production that is not just a simple album but that will look in different genres to release its own substantial marrow.'

“Introspection is very intelligently built and interpreted. If you like moods that are soothing and aerial, Introspection is definitely something that you should listen to. It's what I would say a beautiful palette of emotions throughout. The simplicity and the emphasis of melodies on this album are both evident from the first minute right to the last. I can't help but listen and think of Camel as soon as this album starts.”

“I liked the album right from the start. Sometimes I need an album to grow up on me (don’t like it on first spin) but this wasn’t the case. Residuos Mentales’s INTROSPECTION “grew up” on me real quick. But I feel a bit sorry for it’s too short IMO (only 38 minutes long!).”

“This is an album that grows with listening and reveals more depth the more you immerse yourself in it.”

“The name of the duet of in Spanish means “intellectual waste” and despite the negative meaning of the word waste, it is clear that Introspection becomes the ideal body through which the two musicians will “expel” thoughts and feelings they wish to express. In this sense, the listener is confronted with a work of enormous emotional weight, the main goal of which is to purify its creators.”

"...a longing or hopelessness but also a sense of mystery (..) In conclusion "Introspection" is a well-orchestrated album, in which many of the tracks would be right at home on a film soundtrack...Definitely a good album to check out if you're into piano playing because it is the piano playing on this record that shines most.
