A Good Excuse is a flexible group of talent that offers live performances for a variety of occasions. The core of A Good Excuse is a male playing acoustic/electric guitar with vocals - as a Duo (with Female Back-up Vocals & Piano) - or as a Trio (with Jazz Guitar Accompaniment) that is tailored for each venue event genre and budget.
A Good Excuse provides tasteful music geared for all ages and genres for Fine Dining Restaurants, Vineyards, Wine Tasting Rooms and Private Events & Parties (including weddings), where patrons can enjoy listening to some of their favorite songs while still being able to carry on conversations without raising their voices. Patrons especially enjoy the exquisite vocal harmonies.
The Solo, Duo or Trio can be slated towards Americana, Current/Classic Country, Pop, Jazz, R&B/R&R, Blues, or original music. If the event requires a larger sound, A Good Excuse can be expanded to include lead guitar, bass guitar, percussion, brass (trumpet/sax), harmonica, stage lighting and auditorium sound reinforcement.
Red is a 5th generation Texan - raised in rural Harris County - when Jackrabbit Road was a two lane FM road and you could hear a car coming from 5 miles away - and when the corner of Claymore & Piney Point was a 30 acre farm that supported three families.
Red's been feelin' the music since the 50's--with influences from artists such as Jimmy Reed, B.B. King, ZZ Hill, Albert Collins, Freddy King, Eric Clapton, ZZ Top and many more. Mix that in with Texas Country, Pop, Americana, Classic Rock and a little “Jazz” and there ya’ go – Red Watterson & A Good Excuse.
Years of playing and touring as part of a Contemporary Gospel group have always been a part of the musical puzzle that makes up Red Watterson & A Good Excuse, helping to define the many styles of music and vocals.
Shelley's years of experience singing and playing piano as a Worship Leader provide the confidence she displays while producing excellent vocal harmonies and moving piano accompaniment, both of which are major enhancements to the overall sound of "A Good Excuse".
When asked directly, "What kind of music does A Good Excuse" provide?", it's difficult to answer, so we like to answer: a range somewhere between Michael Buble and Eric Clapton.
The diversity of music adds flavor and interest as performances of A Good Excuse are "sprinkled" around town. A Good Excuse is available for private functions and public functions.
A Good Excuse is currently working the Greater Bryan-College Station, Brenham, Nacogdoches and Waco areas - performing as a duo with Red's acoustic guitar/vocals and Shelley's piano/vocals.
