Rainbow Girls is a group of female musicians from California who write and perform original material with roots in folk, Americana, gypsy, funk, soul, and rock’n’roll. In addition to their soaring harmonies, these ladies switch back and forth amongst a multitude of instruments including, but not limited to: acoustic and electric guitar, accordion, harmonica, banjolele, mandolin, bass, cello, keys, ukelele, kazoo, djembe, and drum kit. In May 2013 they released their debut album, “The Sound of Light,” and took it to Europe, the UK, and the western half of the US. Since the end of their 2014 tour dates, they have been holed up in their new home north of San Francisco recording their newest album, due for release in September. “Just occasionally one comes across a band for the first time who truly move, excite and lift one so totally as to get absolutely caught up in the moment and the music. It’s fantastic to be reminded of what music is all about and these lovely girls from California certainly manage to do that.” – Norwich Blog

Q: what is each of your individual stories with music? How long have you been playing..what instruments? Do you come from a musical family?

A: -Erin and Caitlin started on piano before they can remember. They were both in drama and did musical theater as well. They have since self-taught every instrument they each play, except for the sitar, which they both took lessons for 2 years under Scott Marcus at UCSB. -Cheyenne started tap dancing in her dance class at a very young age, and picked up a guitar as she got older. Ask her where she got her guitar, and she'll tell you Weezer gave it to her onstage. It is true! -Savannah has wanted to play percussion, and only percussion, since she was in diapers. She now teaches drums when she is not touring with Rainbow Girls. -Vanessa started playing ukelele last summer (2011), and has since embarked on learning bass, keys, and percussion. She just bought a banjo this past May (2013)!
