“The group stands out from other jam bands with its horn section of distinctive voices and solid jazz chops. Chris Vanderpool provides muscle with bold statements on trombone. Trumpeter Ryan Boone churns and burns. Gurley, on baritone sax, leverages his minimal approach for maximum drama, at times suggesting mystery, horror or science fiction while slowly building solos in registers of lowest, lower and low. Paul Rose created transitions and alternating patterns and tempos that further shaped the riff-based tunes. He drove a Latin rhythm with tasty toms while keyboard player Dennis Groves tuned his instrument to sound like steel pans. Guitarist Jeremy Miller shredded several solos with dexterous screaming reverb. Bassist Grady Butler generated energy and speed as well as providing a bottom.”
